NBC Olympic Anti-Bush Editorial
NBC broadcast

Posted on 08/22/2004 3:25:55 PM PDT by GnuHere

I had the misfortune of turning to the Olympic coverage while channel surfing this afternoon - did anyone catch the diatribe by Jim Lampley regarding Drudge's rumor of a possible Bush visit to Athens, including watching the Iraqi soccer team while there?

Without labeling it an editorial (of course), he launched into two major objections why a Bush visit would be imposing on the Olympics: 1. Straining the security forces beyond their capability. Fine, what's your evidence for that? 2. The Iraqi soccer team's objections to Bush (as if the comments of, what, two team members were the gospel).

This just fried me, as the REAL reason he and NBC would object to a visit is that they'd be forced to cover it and give W some air time - as little as possible, natch.

What's the evidence that The WH is even considering such a visit. A DRUDGE-a-Gram? Its Matt's weekly hype for his Sunday show.

What an asshole. That's as bad if not worse than Bob Costas's opening ceremonies potshot at President Bush after the crowd gave a rousing ovation for the American team.

If I want to hear a couple of gasbags spew political bilge, I'll watch Meet The Press.

Bush should go visit the troops in Iraq and talk with them. I know they can use the support right now after listening to Michael Moore, John Fonda Kerry, and CNN.

Saw it.

And the ONLY reason they gave Drudge (who they hate) any mention was the opportunity to slam President Bush.

Thanks, I did a search with several words - but not Lampley!

I can't see any good coming out of a Bush visit to the Olympics. A short trip to Iraq to visit the troops would be a much better way to spend his time...

This trip would be very stupid for Bush to make. There's no up-side to it for Bush. Some think it is a dem dirty trick just talking about a trip. I hope the Bush people have better sense than to attempt such a trip.

Yes, that's where they got it. Imagine......NBC reading Drudge and news feeds.

Bush went to Iraq on a surprise visit.
NBC was left in the dust and started to moan, groan and complained of being left as a side show.
These people are not in a position to make a judgment call as to where a President could or could not go.
Quite a piece of arrogance by NBC.

Here's the e-mail I sent to the NBC Olympic feedback:

Anti-Bush comments

The derogatory, biased comments made by Jim Lampley (?) regarding the rumor of President Bush visiting the Olympics should be designated onscreen as what they are - an editorial, not fact. NBC's continuing and painfully obvious left-wing bias is probably one reason I am not watching much of the Olympics this year, combined with the fact that airing tape-delayed prime time events in a world where information is instantly available online is archaic, at best. Perhaps you are trying to make sure your coverage is as archaic as Athens itself - congrats in succeeding with that.

Have you by any chance in your infinite wisdom done a story about how the Iraqi soccer team physically GOT to Athens? I understand they were airlifted out of Iraq by coalition forces. Must be nice to get such good care, as opposed to being airlifted via thumb screws in the old days. But none of this, of course, will ever be emphasized by liberal media whores like you.

Let me see here. The US is providing a massive amount of the security in both forces and money, so who is the strain on? These bozos are so biased that they use ANY opportunity to stab Bush. Am also willing to bet that these select two players were not on the last olympic soccer team(managed by Uday). Perhaps Lampley could have done one better by interviewing these two players. This made me sick too. When Kerry "self destructs" let's see what these liberal weenies have to say.

So far my TV's been on for exactly 0.0 seconds of Olympic Coverage. It's not the politics, it's the mind-numbingly boooo-oring sports and estrogen soaked "human interest" stuff. Now they wanna go Boston Globe on me as well?

I'll bet Lampley gets a big NBC raise for thinking of a way to bash Bush during the Olympics. If only there were a team from Vietnam so that they could say something like "Vietnam hasn't seen athletes like this since John Kerry left." Bob Costas certainly has no class. He even used his little sports show to slam Reagan on the week of his funeral. I used to think CBS was the worst, but NBC has surpassed them!

Lampley is a lightweight anyway. I saw him introducing the women's marathon this morning. He mentioned that he'd had the privelege of interviewing the first winner of an Olympic Women's Marathon, and that honored as he was, he felt that the honor should have gone to a woman reporter.

Basically, Lampley wanted everyone to know he is the classic liberal gurly man we've always known he was.
