I just came from my mom's house. Both my "new teen" nieces were there. NO BRACELETS.

My next door neighboor, new teen. No bracelets.

I need to find a source to monitor this stuff though...so I know what to look for.

A freeper in the above posts did provide a link. I hope if I book mark it will be a source.

NO. A girl wearing a large number of bracelets is obviously NOT popular.

I understand that part

My point was .. if a girl who thought this was stupid and didn't wear them .. then she could be considered popular because she had no brackets

For those of you who do not speak teen, I have gone through the effort of translating this document as a public service....

First the original:

Sorry but im a jr high student and half of my friends and people in my school wear the bracelets and dont play the game. just cuz some peeps wear them for that reason its kinda like prostitutes only doing that. our parents are always badgering us about the bracelets like do you know what those mean why do you where those? it usually winds up in i dont want you to wear them and that makes us wear them more! i doubt that anyone would lose sleep over them and if you did your just trying to prevent your children from wearing what they want.why do you think children become rebllious and move away from there parents and never talk to them again? gee i wonder could it be the lack of freedom or maybe the leash we are put on is tied to tight around our knecks choking us until we are depressed and suicidle. they are just bracelets and if we hadnt the idea of them as sex we wouldnt never thought of that! we are young and most of us naive enough to believe stupid stuff like taht. And we wonder why this world cannot become better then it already is because our priorities are screwed and there is no trust in the younger generations! if you dont want your daughter to get pregnant dont ban her from b/fs because that can be an exciting experiance in a young persons life tell her the facts and then she can make a well informed decision and you can (believe it or not) trust her

Now the translation:

Hello. I am a student and am currently attending junior high school. My friends and I like to wear those colorful “jelly” bracelets…but we don’t play “the game”.These bracelets have been associated with “the game”. Some people call them “sex bracelets”.

In this game, one person attempts to break or "snap" a sex bracelet off of another person. The broken bracelet then becomes a “sex coupon” the snapper can exchange for the sex act signified by the bracelet's color. It is cheating if you simply pull the bracelet off the arm without breaking it, or use a knife or scissors to cut it. The game is rumored to have first been played at college fraternity parties.

Undoubtedly some people do wear them for the express purpose of playing the game but the only ones we know of that do that are prostitutes. Regardless of this fact, our parents are always trying to initiate discussions about them. They ask us if we know what they signify and why we are wearing them. Generally these discussions end with our parents telling us not to wear them. Of course this makes us want to wear them despite the wishes of our parents.

I don’t see that these bracelets are anything to be concerned about. If you are concerned about them, then you are only attempting to stifle your child’s creativity and expressiveness. This is exactly why many children move out of the house and remain angry at their parents the rest of their lives. I wonder if you can see that destroying our spirit and making us bend to your wills is a metaphorically the same as putting a leash on a dog and holding it back until it chokes itself to death trying to get away.

These are bracelets. We don’t consider them to be for sex. If we had never been informed that they were used in the “game” we never would have known because we are young and naïve.

Is it any wonder that the world isn’t yet a utopia? These bracelets have become a priority. It’s as if our parents are telling us that they don’t trust the younger generation.

If you don’t want your daughter to become pregnant, don’t ban her from (untranslatable) This can be a very exciting and educational experience. What you should do is to give her all of the facts concerning sex and sexuality. Then she has all the facts she needs to make a well informed decision. It is only then that you can begin to trust her.
