I guess I would be more upset if it were a real sport...but synchronized diving?

Yeah, you know, I saw some of it. And while it takes genuine skill to do it---some of the divers are champion individual divers too---it just strikes me as if someone just decided to invent a silly way to make things harder. "I know, we'll jump together and you have to do exactly what I do!"
