Yeah, you know, I saw some of it. And while it takes genuine skill to do it---some of the divers are champion individual divers too---it just strikes me as if someone just decided to invent a silly way to make things harder. "I know, we'll jump together and you have to do exactly what I do!"

Well that wasn't nice of him then. He should have waited until they were finished. People mess up though. We see it routinely at the Olympics . Dives flop and divers hit boards. Maybe they should have given the divers some time to regroup though.
