I can see how the current would carry over wet ground, but what shocks me is that it would be strong enough to kill 6 horses outright.
Unless the horses were right up near the pole when it happened.
I hung sage, too. Just tied the stems in small bunches in succession to make a longer strand. I just used some light twine.
Heh. didn't think about that. But nowadays, since you're not supposed to lock your luggage, how would you make sure they weren't stolen? Could you demand at the counter that you be there when they examine it, then lock it yourself before they put it in with the baggage?
If the horses were shod, could the current have 'found' the metal and traveled up that way?
I'm not sure yet how it works. I am sure it will be a topic of much conversation next spring!
That the horses were shod definately gave them a good connection to the ground. I just don't know why there was that much current in the ground.
I'm certain that there are professionals trying to figure this all out as we speak. :-)

Well...if it's just a few leaves (like the occaisional pruning I do in the summer) I just spread them out on a paper towel and let them dry on the counter. In the fall, I cut the whole bush ...I'm talking basil here...and wash the sand and stuff off, let them dry off and put them upside down in a paper bag until all the leaves are dried.
Paper bag...that sounds easier than tying.
I have TONS of sage, and that's the main thing I'm hoping to save, plus some mint and basil. The thyme is still pretty small, so that may not be worth trying this with.
You wouldn't BELIEVE how much sage I have! It's grown almost as fast as the mint. I'm gonna hafta start pulling it up in places so it doesn't spread further than I want it.

I never had much luck with sage. If the thyme is small enough, could you just dig it up, pot it, and let it overwinter inside? Then you could put it back out in the garden next year. Thyme would survive the winter in NC.
I'm back! I got all my prep work done for tomorrow, got today's work graded and even got the chickens set up with their night light.
The boys are eating chicken and dumplin's that Celeste made and had extra. They're watching their favorite TV shows that I recorded while they were doing school.
I'm so tired I'm just sitting, trying to figure out what I'm gonna have to eat. Think I'll start with a cup of tea.
My cat has Glaucoma in one eye, which you prolly noticed when you were here. Here's an old picture of what his eye has looked like for the past few years. The lens all grey like that, Iris wide open and fairly unresponsive to light. I don't think he sees anything out of it.
His right , your left, the eye.... it is just flash glare in his other eye, it's fine.
Here's how it looks today, and the change is recent. The lens looks like it has rotated around, and some black is now visible in the eye. It also now responds to light, ie, the iris closes in bright light.
It is just bulging compared to the other one... but not painful, and not irritated looking or watery... He likes me to rub his face, and rub over his eyes.
I have an appointment to take Gidget in tomorrow because she is limping ~again~. I am going to take him too. The last time this was looked at, I was warned that he could get Glaucoma in the other eye, but he hasn't, and I was warned that he might injure the bad eye on sharp objects because he has no blink reflex. If that happened, they would just remove it without a lot of expense. I could have had it treated but elected ~not~ to go to the $$$cat optometrist$$$.
Question is, as the pressure builds in his eye, and it bulges like that, will it ever just burst? What's up with the rotation of the lens?
