The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I just read about your grandparents Jen. They should be alright with Charley making landfall well south of them. The strong side of the hurricane is the northeast quadrant (the one heading towards me).

I heard on the radio that two million people have evacuated from the west coast. As I was coming home from Orlando last night I saw a bunch of it on I-4 and things were going along pretty orderly.

"Yeah, that's the sequel to "Knight Life". It's a good in-bookstore read."

That's one way I like to save money on books :) I was excited to see it because the author is one of my favorite Spider-Man writers, so I'm curious to see what else he's written. Moving King Arthur to 20th/21st-century politics seemed like an interesting premise.

Speaking of in-bookstore reads, I tried skimming the first volume of "Eva" yesterday. I was trying to pick up the plot from just the pictures, which I can do with most comics, but it seemed like there was a lot of non-visual action and the plot was pretty dialogue-driven, at least in this volume. The main thing I picked up was that the premise involved a cybernetic interface with robotics. I'm still kind of confused about what was going on beyond that.

I didn't know there were "Dune" prequels on the way. Hope they're good!

Watching "Teen Titans" right now. This episode has a different opening theme where the lyrics are actually in Japanese, as opposed to the other one which just has a Japanese sound but English lyrics.

On the live thread they're saying that the storm will track across Orlando and exit Florida at Daytona. That means it's going right over ksen's head.

Howlin just said they've announced an evacuation of North Carolina beaches by 9 p.m. Guess they're speculating that the storm will cross Florida, gain strength over the Atlantic and turn back towards the coast.

On the way? You've been out of it... they're about to publish the last of the 6 next week. Check out Amazon. Anderson collaborated with Herbert's son. The "House Atriedes" etcetera trilogy is more interesting than the "Butlerian Jihad" trilogy. It's not Dune, but it's good SF. Unlike the Dune sequels, which were... probably better with mind-altering substances.

Yeah, I've been watching it all afternoon. It's vey close to a CAT 5. "Should" weaken over land.

But the Governor of North Carolina has called a state of emergency. If this hits the Gulf Stream on the other side of Florida, it could strengthen or stay strong and head back in. But we just don't know yet. Of course I'm being told on the other thread that I'm ignorant because I think that's a possibility.

Then there was HUGO which did NOT lose strength over land.

West coast of Florida is gettting hammered, but it's hard to tell exactly how bad.

It's gonna be a bumpy ride...

Checking in from the in-law's house.....$@$#%$^#@! dial-up!

Anyway, they are forecasting we should be in 70mph winds by 7 tonight. We are currently in a tornado watch until sometime tonight.

Other than that things are just hunky-dorey! ;^)

Oh, G'nad, thanks for posting that! One of my characters carries a fan, and yours is just beautiful!

I always wondered where Treval got his formal fan ... now I know!

Really. Well, I suppose a lot of stuff in Dune needed backstory...or magic 'shrooms...

I saw those.....one of them looks like it could become particularly nasty. But the ones that come from the Atlantic are more of a danger for you than for us.

It's those stupid Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico hurricanes that nail us.
