The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hey y'all (I prolly missed some folks).

Charley has just been upgraded to a Category 4. That's hughly series. I think most of our HH FReepers are out of the direct path.

But for comparison sake, Isabel was down to Category 2 when she hit land.

Keep the folks (all of 'em) in the Tampa Bay area in your prayers.

Sounds like a pretty neat job opportunity if you like that kind of work, especially if it can be used to generate contacts for computer-related jobs, too.

Made that curry last night. It was wonderful! I think it turned out a little too spicy for Stephen, though. He said "This reminds me of music that's just a little too loud, like you almost can't hear it as well because it's overpowering..."

That's what my Dad always says about the spices I like! I guess it's an acquired taste you have to build up to :)

One of the funniest things I ever saw was Benny Hill's impersonation of Julia Childs.

Going home here folks. If the phone lines hold out, I'll be back in later, but the storm may come in just south of Tampa and if it cuts straight across, we Southeast Florida folks will be facing some nasty storms with tornadoes later this afternoon.

Keep everyone in the path in your prayers. This could be Andrew II!! Especially if it hits the Port Charlotte area which has little to no hurricane building codes in place.

My friend Patty (the one in the wheelchair) lives there and she's at her parents' house. She's in tears because she realizes now that her trailer doesn't stand a chance and she will lose everything. She's on disability, so everything she owns is precious to her. Prayers again please!

Love ya! Bye!

BTW I forgot to mention, yesterday at B&N I saw an interesting-looking book by Peter David:

One Knight Only

Having made England's doughty King Arthur (aka Arthur Penn) mayor of contemporary New York in last year's Knight Life, David now has his charismatic hero attempt to carve the White House into a new Camelot. At first Arthur's problems seem mere irritations, though reincarnated wife Gwen is now itching to do "something meaningful," like health care reform. Then Arthur's world suddenly shatters. With his grouchy wizard Merlin frozen into a presidential Rose Garden ornament and Gwen slammed into a deadly coma by Arthur's mortal enemy, the Mideast terrorist Sandoval, Arthur resigns the presidency and embarks on a perilous quest to release Merlin and heal Gwen with a swig from the Holy Grail.

Yeah, that's the sequel to "Knight Life". It's a good in-bookstore read.

Darn, the B&N had a Real Author signing on Tuesday! And it's even a guy whose books I've read... left 'em at home because they were sort of Dad's too, though... Kevin Anderson, he's helping write the Dune prequels.

Just north of Tampa, I think. About ten minutes' drive from the coast. I don't want them to get hurt but we're still angry with them for just up and moving... I mean, the whole reason my family moved to PA and not Colorado in the first place was so that we wouldn't be too far from these grandparents, and then they move to Florida where they haven't got any family or anything so my grandfather can go fishing.

Well, that doesn't mean they deserve to get their house destroyed, though, so prayers are appreciated.

That would be good. I don't even know if they got evacuated or not. Kinda out of touch here...

Hey guys,

Just checking in before I shut the computer down for a while. We are heading to the in-law's house (1.2 mile away) for a bit.

Charley has changed track a bit and he should pass about 20 or so miles north of us. At least being on this side of the state means that he will have weakened by the time he gets here.

I wouldn't mind some prayers especially for my Josh who is taking all this stuff VEY SERIESLY. So pleace pray that he has peace in the fact that we know God can watch out for us even in the middle of a pretty strong hurricane.

Well, it's starting to rain here and the wind is kicking up just a bit, but the major part of our fun should be well into the night.

I'll check back in later.
