The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

"Backing up" means remembering to pop out yesterday's tape and put in today's. It's got a script that runs in the middle of the night and actually do it.

Um, the authority we're talking about misusing is the power to get into people's files. That includes professors. It's not a joking matter.

I was joking 'cause I know you wouldn't do that.

That backup sounds like what I had to do basically, though I have no idea what script was involved. I just know it'd run all night and back up whatever had been entered during the day.

Yeah, ok, but it's still not funny.

Ooooh.... nobody ever told me I could get American tv shows off bittorrent... so if I can't get Amazing Race to play through the stream, I can just download and watch at my convenience, huh?

Welcome home!

Hm...I just had someone call me asking me to take part in a voting survey. That's the first time that's happened. Now AFTER I hung up...I notice that the Caller ID showed (I THINK) the same name as the gal who was starting the Young Republicans (wasn't her name). Very curious.

In any case, I answered all the questions right...I think I should get a prize or sumpin. :-)

"Yeah, ok, but it's still not funny."

Okay, Arbiter of All That is Humorous :)

Can't you just watch "Amazing Race" on TV?

That is, the same name as I had on the machine when the YR gal called...which wasn't her own name.

No, I don't have cable, remember? Too expensive. Also I don't have a local phone line... a vcr... a vaccuum cleaner... a toaster oven...

I believe I get it on the local station here.

You sound like you need to go to a rummage sale!

No, I need money. Big difference.

It's clearing up, maybe I'll be able to go for a walk after all.

He didn't grill it. Apparently all our options have been reset to only 50 posts per page...even when my preferences say 100...

Yup... someone obviously knows what's best for us, even if we don't.

I suppose we aren't lucky enough to have him drop out of the race after he decided to drop into it, are we?

OT: I'm sure you've heard it before from the locals, "Never seen an August like this one before". Well, it is true. But I for one, am loving this weather.

Mmmm... flannel sheets. There are few luxury items as fine as fresh flannel sheets.

But you've got internet. Your priorities are clearly in order.
