In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
cajole \kuh-JOAL\ verb
1. to persuade with flattery or gentle urging especially in the face of reluctance; coax *
2. to deceive with soothing words or false promises
Example sentence:
Peter's friends cajoled him into coming to the party even though he was not in the mood to go.
Etymology: Did you know?
You might not think to associate "cajole" with "cage," but it's likely that these two words are connected. Researchers have made an association between the prattle of a caged bird and the persistent wheedling of a person attempting to get something out of someone else. "Cajole" comes from a French verb, "cajoler," which now means "coax" but at one time meant "to chatter like a jay." Some etymologists theorize that "cajoler" is from "gaiole," an Old North French word meaning "birdcage" and ancestor to our word "jail." "Gaiole" derives from a Late Latin word, "caveola," which means "little cage" and is the diminutive of the Latin "cavea" ("cage" or "cavity"). Our word "cage" derives from this noun, and "cave" is a close relative.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Cute story about the hairdresser-glad you like the new highlights. Yesterday we were out of the house early-hubby on errands and me to do a bid-then it rained for over two hours in the afternoon. We met friends for dinner at a favorite restaurant out here-she and I used to work for the same company (now out of business because the owner went completely nuts) before we both started our own businesses, and we were sharing some of the best stories about the company with our hubbies, then they were telling us the funnier stuff that happened to them at work this past week. Then she and I shared the latest village gossip-all in all an interesting evening.
It has actually rained enough here to have caused one of my rosemary bushes to die, but last year was nearly as wet.
Everyone loves a wiseacre!!!!
What cuties!!!
(they must look like mom)
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a wonderful evening!!!
We have actually managed to go 2 entire days without rain, and the temperature has remained very reasonable (it's only 61 right now)
good for you! that's a relief!
Well then, by Texas standards, you're not far away at all! lol
Good morning xs.......
hiya! i am still groggy. i was deep in a dream when xshub woke me up. i dreamt that both xsboy and i had finals this coming week and that i had NEVER been to the class and that he had been home for a long time and wasn't prepared for the finals. weird.
Lovely babies! You are a lucky man.
CG has a Rusty Wallace lighter.
YEAH is right! Now I can continue with life.
yeppers!
Scary............
I wonder what those types of dreams mean......... I have dreams about school like that - a test and I have never opened the book!
i think it means you feel unprepared. i wonder what i feel unprepared for? the start of school? yeah, i am not looking forward to the ratrace that my life becomes then, and it feels like fall to me now that our vaca is over.
i was able to process, in the dream, that if i had any tests that i was just taking the classes for fun, bc i had the realization that i had graduated and didn't need anything else, but for xsboy i was thinking in the dream, how do you go about making up a class at catholic school and graduate on time?
LOL......... I had a dream that someone kidnapped my daughter on Saturday and we didn't do anything until Monday......... do you think, subliminally, that I'm unhappy with her? lol
