[Mega-Vanity] Home needed for sick kitten (not mine)
Some idiot who didn't spay his cat. | 7/30/04 | Me

Posted on 07/30/2004 9:20:26 PM PDT by Slings and Arrows

Some of you know the story of Zia, my new kitten. Well, Wednesday night I found myself in custody of another kitten - poor thing just strolled up to me in my carport, mewing piteously. I took it to the vet, and it turns out the poor critter has good reason to mew - it has feline leukemia and a nasty upper respiratory infection.

This kitty is in trouble - I can't take her becase Zia would be in danger of infection, and no normal shelter would take her for the same reason. I have a call in to Waccamaw Animal Rescue Mission (the local no-kill animal shelter), but haven't heard from them so far. I'm currently boarding her at the vet. If I can't find a home for her by Monday, she'll be euthanized.

The respiratory infection is curable, and she could potentially live a long life. The problem is that she could not be in a house with other cats because of the feline leukemia, and in about seven years she'll probably start to develop other health problems. (So says the vet, I'm no expert.) I also expect she'd have to be an indoor cat because of the leukemia.

The kitten is female, about 6-8 weeks old (possibly a littermate of Zia's), brindled tan coat, and has no fear of dogs. I'll happily drive her to anywhere within a few hours of the Myrtle Beach area, but I doubt an air cargo company would take her without a clean bill of health (and she does have fleas). Sorry, no pics - maybe later.

I know this is a long shot. If anyone is interested in taking her, please post or freepmail.

Aw, you new kitty reminds me of my Felix. I had to let him go last year at 18 years old. He had grey and cream coloring with green eyes. On his tail it was grey and white striped with a white end to it. It looked like the end of a paint brush dipped in white paint. Seeing his tail was the only way we could find him at night. He was a cool cat and didn't mind showing emotion.

I missed this thread the first time around. IMHO, there's a special place in Heaven for you for your act of kindness. God bless.

S&A, wish we could help, but I have 6 where I live. I'm a sucker for homeless kitties as well.

Here is a list of no-kill shelters in your area, though I am not sure if they will take the kitty.

Why encourage people to put the energy and compassion and resources into a cat instead of a abandonexd child who needs help? Be kind and have the cat killed.

You have no kindness. People can care for children and animals. You on the other hand, obviously cannot.

She looks like the two small gray kitties I saw Monday night across the road from us in a hayfield; they were mousing. No way to get near them; they must be feral.

I'm happy for the good ending. I live in the country and have 5 inside and 2 outside kitties. The outside kitties get locked down at night. I have found kitties wandering around that I've found homes for, so I know it's not usually an easy task.

Sadly, best to put the kitten down, S&A; it will die from the FL, and it'll be a slow, painful death. It's always the first thing I have checked on a stray, and determines whether or not I keep them. It'll be in a better place, and it's troubles will be over.

Then start rescuing the kids then. How many have you adopted?

Telling people all their money should go to the children, other people's children, and they are wrong to spend their own money any way that brings them happiness, is a socialist attitude.

And very Hillary.

Her adamant and oft-declared refusal to bear and care for any children is legend

Last time I checked, this was a free country. Anyone can choose to or refuse to bear children. And refusing doesn't make them unamerican, unloving, selfish, etc etc etc.

A lot of us have damned good reasons for not bringing children into this already difficult enough world, only to live in a situation where they cannot be adequately emotionally and physically cared for. Caring enough not to put someone through that is a hell of a lot more compassionate than anything that any of the "thou must bear" types on this forum can come up with.

Free country? Individual rights? My non-pregnant a$$!

I'm happy to hear the good news about the kitten...at least there is still SOME compassion left in this world!!!

Clarification:

"Free country, individual rights according to the way certain types around here would have it, my non-pregnant A$$."

Yes...that's better.

Like Tereza, who thinks people hit by hurricanes should go naked, especially the children?

Focusing all spare time and energy on animals when humans need help is pitiful folly.

If you disagree, then I pity you.

I never posted that everyone should bear a child - simply that everyone should - NOT MUST - invest themselves in helping children in need.

You are amazing to equate moral norms (people SHOULD do X) with socialist mandates (people MUST do X).

May you enjoy pampering your non-pregnant ass (I thought this thread was about kittens, only to find out you own an ass and have her on birth control).

Nothing to pity here, Bud. Nobody said "all" spare time should be spent on animals and not humans. It's just that other people's kids aren't my (or anyone else's) problem.

I never posted that everyone should bear a child - simply that everyone should - NOT MUST - invest themselves in helping children in need.

Sure not the way your original post came off.

Who are you calling a socialist? The "it takes a village" line I think came from Hillary, IIRC.

Pampering anything would be nice. I have barely enough money to get by.

As I said, hope you have a nice day.

You seem educated, but make a fatal error in logic and fact.

Socialism is all about FORCING people to do things.
My posts never even hinted at FORCING anyone to do a damn thing.

People with thin skin who feel vulnerable to legitimate criticism turn the moral pressure of an OUGHT into the socialist mandate of a MUST.

I advocate loudly for children taking precedence over animals - I don't suggest it be mandatated by law.
