A candidate for state office in the great state of Washington appears headed for defeat even before the first absentee ballots are mailed in. (This is my first post on FreeRepublic, by the way, so bear with me if I make a few errors.)
David Blomstrom is a candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction who issued a press release calling for the "legal or quasi-legal" execution of President George W. Bush. It was discussed in this thread http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1168765/posts
Apparently, his actions were legal, as his sites are still online. But the website may outlive Blomstrom. Check his campaign website, at http://www.edrevolt.org/:
"EMERGENCY: My name won't appear on the ballot unless I raise $1,017 for my filing fee and deliver it to Olympia by July 30! Please give me an opportunity to inject some fire into an otherwise hopeless campaign by making a contribution and urging your friends to chip in. See my Support page for more details."
Can you believe that? This nutjob lives in liberal Seattle, and he can't even find any support there! If he hasn't raised $1,000 by now, he certainly isn't going to do it in the next three days.
How hard can it be to raise a lousy $1,000? If you could find just 100 liberals who cared enough to donate $10 each, you'd have it made. There's just one problem: LIBERALS DON'T CARE.
The significance of this extends far beyond this particular candidate. No matter how twisted his ideas, no matter how disgusting his lack of patriotism, you have to admit this guy has guts. He has also obviously put a lot of work into his cause. Check out all his websites. You could spend days reading his material! This man could be a serious threat if his fellow liberals supported him.
But they don't. In fact, liberals are ignoring him, preferring to throw millions of dollars at corrupt candidates who offer nothing but rhetoric. I read somewhere on one of his sites that Blomstrom was banned from Democratic Underground!
I saw a post promoting Blomstrom on Democratic Underground's Washington State forum at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=184 but it has been removed. They're eating their own!
Therefore, I nominate David Blomstrom as the Ralph Nader of Washington State. He won't divert any votes, because his name won't even be on the ballot, but he can be likened to the proverbial canary in a coal mine. Blomstrom's courage (or recklessness) stands in stark contrast to liberal voters who prefer gazillionaires like John Kerry to grassroots activists.
I also think we should thank Democratic Underground for censoring David Blomstrom. If we say PLEASE, we could probably get Democratic Underground to endorse George W. Bush.
Oops, I forgot - most ilberals aren't going to vote anyway so why bother? :)
I'm not being cynical...
The thing is...
Why sign up to to post this your first day? This is really the question... come on dontcha have an oompa loompa pic for us on your ifrst day?
We get our share of trolls, adn I will admit they have a tendency to be fun threads, its just a waste of space. Your first post reeks of troll..
OK, I read your comment on DUh at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/795745/posts
I don't agree with it - I believe in getting in people's faces. But I'll play by your rules.
Also, I may have been too cocky in predicting a big GOP victory in Washington. There are two powerful Democrats running for Governor, and I believe one of them is the predicted winner. (I won't mention her name until I find out if it violates one of your conventions!)
But I still think this election will be better than usual.
Ouch!! :=) Couldn't you have at least put oldies in quotes?
First, you ran a vanity. This should go under the "blogs and personal" column. Very rarely do vanities answer the category of "News."
Second, you treated your topic as if there were some basic presuppositions which everyone would automatically know. One thing you will learn on Free Republic is that we frequently do not agree with each other. Don't assume that we all share the same hyper-outrage over any topic. Unless you're talking about Elian Gonzales.
The last criticism I have is that no one really cares about the Democratic Underground web site. They just don't matter and we don't spend much time ventilating about them. An analogy would be is that I don't ventilate about about cockroaches in my house. I just squish 'em.
I do congratulate you on avoiding a common newbie error. You had no glaring spelling or grammatical errors.
getting in peoples faces is not really what a message board is about..
save that for the rally on the street ok...
I am glad you are here, there is no place on the net like Free Republic.
(and dont be fooled, we do mention DU from time to time, but we keep it to the initials, and keep a limit on it)
gotta go home n cook dinner... I hope to catch you later Jack
ttfn :)
"Why sign up to to post this your first day?"
So what SHOULD I have posted for my first topic - my personal biography?
I followed the first thread about this guy's website. When I visited his website last night and saw his "Emergency" message, I thought it might be of some interest. So I did some research - but I couldn't post anything without registering, so I registered.
Now how do I know YOU aren't a troll?
boy... I tried to be nice...
guess I was wrong.
wouldnt be the first time
Having been a member since 2000, and a lurker since 98, I'm beginning to consider myself one of the oldies. Take it as a badge of honor.
THAT ain't gonna help you!
**Now how do I know YOU aren't a troll?**
oh that stung... I've been called a troll :(
help
Those were my exact thoughts reading half way through the article! HMMMMMMMMMMM....
and was I not TRYING to be nice???
"First, you ran a vanity. This should go under the "blogs and personal" column. Very rarely do vanities answer the category of "News.""
I hate to sound stupid, but what's a vanity? When I saw the announcement on this guy's site, my first thought was "Hey, this is breaking news!"
"Second, you treated your topic as if there were some basic presuppositions which everyone would automatically know. One thing you will learn on Free Republic is that we frequently do not agree with each other. Don't assume that we all share the same hyper-outrage over any topic. I'm a little confused. Are you saying that I shouldn't assume that everyone here hates Blomstrom? I gave the first Blomstrom thread another look before I started my thread, and I saw virtually nothing positive about him. I think one or two individuals supported his first amendment rights and said his statement was technically legal - something like that.
"The last criticism I have is that no one really cares about the Democratic Underground web site. They just don't matter and we don't spend much time ventilating about them. An analogy would be is that I don't ventilate about about cockroaches in my house. I just squish 'em."
OK, that point has already been made several times. Again, I disagree. I like to get in people's faces. But this is your chatboard, so I'll abide by your rules. There are other forums where I can bash DU all I want. :)
Who?
Generally on your first day, you reply to posted threads, post a thread from a published news source or spend time lurking learning the manner and mannerisms here.
Don't pay any attention to these mopes. Post whatever the hell you want, if they don't like it no one forces them to read it. Welcome, this is a great place but paranoia runs rampant.
Personally, I'd just let it go and move on. Once you've been here a month and a half or so, you can post at leisure, and even become a thread nanny if you want.
You have offically been Zotted.
But it is an appropriate question. Watching people get their panties in a twist because some new guy doesn't meet THEIR standards as to what should be posted is a hoot. Talk about presumptuous meddling and not minding their own business.
Guy posts an interesting article and gets a buncha crap from busybodies about it.
