~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XIV~
July 23, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

Posted on 07/23/2004 4:39:59 PM PDT by Soaring Feather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Good morning y'all!

I hope everyone is doing grand.
I brought someone along in hopes of starting everyone's week off with a smile.

((HUGZ)) all 'round!

She's still irritable, and still got her bladders stones.
(But she's lost weight, she now weighs in at 18.7 pounds.)

Filling Station

Oh, but it is dirty!
--this little filling station,
oil-soaked, oil-permeated
to a disturbing, over-all
black translucency.
Be careful with that match!

Father wears a dirty,
oil-soaked monkey suit
that cuts him under the arms,
and several quick and saucy
and greasy sons assist him
(it's a family filling station),
all quite thoroughly dirty.

Do they live in the station?
It has a cement porch
behind the pumps, and on it
a set of crushed and grease-
impregnated wickerwork;
on the wicker sofa
a dirty dog, quite comfy.

Some comic books provide
the only note of color-
of certain color. They lie
upon a big dim doily
draping a taboret
(part of the set), beside
a big hirsute begonia.

Why the extraneous plant?
Why the taboret?
Why, oh why, the doily?
(Embroidered in daisy stitch
with marguerites, I think,
and heavy with gray crochet.)

Somebody embroidered the doily.
Somebody waters the plant,
or oils it, maybe. Somebody
arranges the rows of cans
so that they softly say:
ESSO--SO--SO--SO
to high-strung automobiles.
Somebody loves us all.

Good morning, Lair!

Sonnet XXX
William Shakespeare

When to the sessions of sweet silent thought
I summon up remembrance of things past,
I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought,
And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste:
Then can I drown an eye, unused to flow,
For precious friends hid in death's dateless night,
And weep afresh love's long since cancell'd woe,
And moan the expense of many a vanish'd sight:
Then can I grieve at grievances foregone,
And heavily from woe to woe tell o'er
The sad account of fore-bemoaned moan,
Which I new pay as if not paid before.
But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restored and sorrows end.

Good morning, Sam!!

Oh my, today's graphic sure brings back memories. Little towns and villages used to look just like this.

The poem describes clearly what it was like back then.

Thanks for tunes, poetry and Breakfast.

Listening to Dean Martin. Boy that man could sing and he was so funny.

Here's the Colonel's first attempt at parody songwriting .. :)

DECEMBER 1968 (OH WHAT A LIE)
(With apologies to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons)

Oh, what a lie,
Late December back in '68
Searing fantasies that don’t relate
As he remembers, what a lie!

Oh, what a lie,
You know he didn't even know his CINC
“But I’ll blame Nixon, that’ll work, I think!”
What a liar, what a night!

Oh, we got a funny feeling when he testified
And we, knew our heroes died 'cause Kerry lied

Oh what a lie,
Changing stories never bothers him
Swifties’ truth will make his chances grim
Surrender, Kerry, what a lie!

He feels a rush, like a Swift boat’s rolling thunder
Spinning his polls around and taking his campaign under

(Oh what a lie!)

Oh, we got a funny feeling when he testified
And we, knew our heroes died 'cause Kerry lied

Oh what a lie,
Why'd it take so long to show the light?
Our media won’t print the right
What a liar, what a night!

He feels a rush, like a Swift boat’s rolling thunder
Spinning his polls around and taking his campaign under

(Oh what a lie!)

(repeat and fade)
