~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XIV~
July 23, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906)

Little Brown Baby

Little brown baby wif spa'klin' eyes,
Come to yo' pappy an' set on his knee.
What you been doin', suh -- makin' san' pies?
Look at dat bib -- you's es du'ty ez me.
Look at dat mouf -- dat's merlasses, I bet;
Come hyeah, Maria, an' wipe off his han's.
Bees gwine to ketch you an' eat you up yit,
Bein' so sticky an sweet -- goodness lan's!

Little brown baby wif spa'klin' eyes,
 Who's pappy's darlin' an' who's pappy's chile?
Who is it all de day nevah once tries
Fu' to be cross, er once loses dat smile?
Whah did you git dem teef? My, you's a scamp!
Whah did dat dimple come f'om in yo' chin?
Pappy do' know you -- I b'lieves you's a tramp;
Mammy, dis hyeah's some ol' straggler got in!

Let's th'ow him outen de do' in de san',
 We do' want stragglers a-layin' 'roun' hyeah;
Let's gin him 'way to de big buggah-man;
I know he's hidin' erroun' hyeah right neah.
Buggah-man, buggah-man, come in de do',
Hyeah's a bad boy you kin have fu' to eat.
Mammy an' pappy do' want him no mo',
Swaller him down f'om his haid to his feet!

Dah, now, I t'ought dat you'd hug me up close.
Go back, ol' buggah, you sha'n't have dis boy.
He ain't no tramp, ner no straggler, of co'se;
 He's pappy's pa'dner an' play-mate an' joy.
Come to you' pallet now -- go to yo' res';
 Wisht you could allus know ease an' cleah skies;
Wisht you could stay jes' a chile on my breas'--
Little brown baby wif spa'klin' eyes!

Oh a sweet poem. Thank you so much. This poem stirred a memory for me.

I have a story to relate. It's about my first grand daughter lovely and beautiful Kristen. She was about 3 years old. He father said to her old day "Oh my, you have such beautiful white teeth, where did you get them?" Dear #1 looked at her father and said, "At the K-Mart." Well, needless to say, she cracked the entire family up with an up roar of laughter.

LOL!!! Kids say the funniest things! Shorty informed me the other day that something would be coming out of her tummy, too and when I asked what, she looked around like she was going to tell me the hugest secret, leaned toward me and whispered "A toy!" She cracks me up!!!

Don't Bring Camels in the Classroom

Don't bring camels in the classroom.
Don't bring scorpions to school.
Don't bring rhinos, rats, or reindeer.
Don't bring mice or moose or mule.

Pull your penguin off the playground.
Put your python in a tree.
Place your platypus wherever
you think platypi should be.

Lose your leopard and your lemur.
Leave your llama and your leech.
Take your tiger, toad, and toucan
anywhere but where they teach.

Send your wombat and your weasel
with your wasp and wolverine.
Hide your hedgehog and hyena
where you're sure they won't be seen.

Please get rid of your gorilla.
Please kick out your kangaroo.
No, the teacher didn't mean it
when she called the class a "zoo."

Come to me my Angel of The Night.
Spread your wings, make my sorrows take flight.
Stay with me till first daylight
& return to me under the black of midnight.

Good nite poets

May the sweet aroma of Lily of the Valley
fill your dreams
caress your face
tenderly lull you to sleep
in the safety of knowing love...

~ Dream a Little ~ Love a Lot ~

I remember the color your hair was...
the color of spiced rum
With memories of you
walking without me
in gentle oriental rain
Left me with dreams
of being lost in your embrace.
The peace in your eyes
shone through
I was lost, lost
in your eyes
..........lost
in your embrace...
Dreams of you at Indian Twilight...

Bus Stop

Lights are burning
In quiet rooms
Where lives go on
Resembling ours.

The quiet lives
That follow us—
These lives we lead
But do not own—
Stand in the rain
So quietly
When we are gone,
So quietly . . .
And the last bus
Comes letting dark
Umbrellas out—
Black flowers, black flowers.

And lives go on.
And lives go on
Like sudden lights
At street corners

Or like the lights
In quiet rooms
Left on for hours,
Burning, burning.

In the garden she
remembered
sun filled days
star lit nights
fireflies blinking
and the sweet
smell of jasmine

She remember
his lovely brown yes
the curl of his lips
and the way he loved
to rub her nose with his

She thought she heard
the night whispering
her secrets
but mistook the night
for a nightmare of mornings
without him

She paused to remember
he died a long time ago.

In gardens where she lays
with dew drops in her hair
thinking of a love
that is no longer there.
Dew drops on her skin
mixed with salty tears,
dying cries & despairing sighs...
alas, noone hears.
And so in gardens
she lays down to rest
the shattered heart lying
within her trembling breast.

Winter gardens hold the pose
of long lost loves
a frozen rose
she lay there in golden robes
with ivy twining round the boughs
of pines sweet and evergreen
she dreams of him
in between
twilight hours of dusk and dawn
with frozen dew on the lawn
