I've finally had enough! I want DSL! SBC just canceled DSL for my town and it looks like no help in sight. They are in talks with an independant phone company for sale of East Texas C.O's, mine being one of them. I don't want satelite and I can't get cable DSL.
I found DSLAM's for sale on EBay and I want to be the DSL provider for my town. I have 30 years experience with SBC, but have never worked on DSL stuff. Never even seen it in a C.O. I need to know what I need to buy and install and what I have to pay the phone company. A T3 cost alot of money per month, so I don't see how DSL is only $30 per month. All I know is I need a DSLam and tie pairs to the frame for Dial tone in and out. Does the RBOC furnish the T3 to the ATM, or do I?
There are so many smart people on FR, I figure somebody knows how to do this.
PS. I want to make a profit, but money is not the object, just faster service. This is my first post, so if I messed up, be gentle.
Here's a bump for the American spirit and capitalism at its finest. You go!
Good luck.
there is more to this than simply dripping in the DSLAM.
It looks like you need to connet the DSLAM directly to the internet.
The customer end is the easy one. The DSL rides the subs phone line to the premise and the sub pays me to rent the line from the RBOC. If your drawing is complete, then I have to install the DSLAM and provide a tie pair to pick up dialtone and send it out to the customer. The RBOC should provide me a path to the ISP. If thats the case then the RBOC will charge me a reasonable fee for that service and I pass it on to my customer. If I have to pay for the line to the ISP, then it doesn't seem to work financially. How many customers are willing to pay $75-$100 a month for a DSL without the ISP charge? Something doesn't compute unless the RBOC's are loosing money at $29 per month.
What is your experience level at an RBOC? You sound pretty negative. If it's so bad, how come my stock hasn't done crapola because the clecs are killing the RBOC's?
Livinston got DSL because petition needed 75 sure customers to sign up and I believe I could get north of 200 here. 75 customers wouldn't pay for the DS3.
