Kristin Lavransdatter, yes. I got it from the library. It's LONG, and the language is kinda tough...plus it assumes you know a bit about the history of Norway at the time, especially with regards to reigns, so I have to refer to the footnotes at times. But it is an INCREDIBLE book, not only as literature (and it's fine, fine literature), but as a study of human nature. The characters are totally real...and people you can really identify with. I think that's much more so if you're Catholic like they are, but probably true no matter. what. It's mind-boggling.

I have enough Catholic friends that I'd probably identify with the characters pretty well... shall have to find it, though what I know about Norway could be written on one side of a notecard.
