The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Nicely done. Although with Gandalf stashed away in Eldamar, I think a suspect might have been Radagast. A barbarian named Radagast tried to lead an army against Rome in about 405 A.D., so he may still have been around. :^)

I was astonished to read that name in Gibbon some years ago.

Laundry done, folded, hung and put away. Nothing came out pink, either. Now... what shall I do with the rest of the day?

.....Yeah, Ed has more angst, even if Al's got more problems on a daily basis. I feel sorry for both of them. It may have been their fault but that's awfully harsh for a pair of kids... what's striking to me is that they still haven't really learned their lesson. And they won't trust or take help from anyone. Well, Ed won't, Al trusts everybody. I wonder if it's because their father abandoned them?

I have a feeling he got cold, though he didn't admit it. He told me that it had dried out, LOL.

Which is why I found a wet washcloth on his table lst night when we hung the dragonfly.

As long as I don't have to take out malpractice insurance, I'll be pretty happy.

Stay tuned... it's inevitable.

It's already a fact for some of us.

I apparently still have learning to do when it comes to laundry. One of my last loads came out blue. I still don't know what did it, either.

I'm betting it all comes out in the next episode... 44... so sometime next week I'll be dropping tantalizing hints and you can yell at me for that.

Hmm, got a chicken breast marinating for dinner and it's about lunchtime. I ought to do some errands or something but I'm not sure I actually have any.

I'd ask you to run some for me, but I don't think that'd quite work...

And I can't find my little purse...it's basically just a coin purse, but I use it for everything. I looked at home and couldn't find it, thought I must have left it in the car or at work, but I still haven't found it. I'm going to have to do a scouring when I get home, but I'm fretting and not getting much work done. I finally got paid today, and I'm out of EVERYTHING, and if I can't find that, I have no ID and know what to get gas or dog food or me food or anything...

SO I guess that's a prayer request, stupid as it is.

It's not a stupid prayer request! And I'm sure you'll find it at home, somewhere weird like the dish cabinet. I'm always sticking things in strange places.

Oh, and a prayer request in return. I mentioned the other day that I had to get a birth certificate sent to me so I can get a new license and stuff... well, if I don't get it by next week, I'm in serious trouble because I won't be able to establish residency for next year, and then I could lose my tuition waver. So... let's trade silly worrysome prayer things, shall we?

Yours is much more serious than mine! You gots prayers, for sure. I wonder if someone could send over some sort of temporary form via fax or if there's any workaround if the worst should happen?

I'm really hoping I find my purse somewhere silly. The last place I absolutely remember having it was in the car before I got my five dollars worth of gas. I'm having nightmares of my placing it on top of Van-sama while pumping gas and then driving off...but since I had the five dollars in my pocket rather than my purse, I don't know why I would have done that. Grrrr! It's worrisome.

When I lose something, I try my best to retrace my steps. Usually the item is somewhere I've already decided it couldn't possibly be, but by physically going over where I've been, I find it.

Unfortunately the only work-around I know of is to beg and plead with the legal-type people to accept the birth certificate I have. Apparently you can sometimes do that. It's a valid city-issued certificate, but they're demanding a state-issued one... sigh...

Trying to remember who wanted a CD...think this is it. I just made a bunch of copies, and IF I can find my purse, I'll be getting mailing envelopes tonight or Saturday. If I get them tonight, I'll be able to mail these out Saturday...otherwise it will be Monday.

My house is so small, I've retraced and retraced already...which is why I'm so worried. I can't do anything from work, of course, which means I'm even more upset. *sigh*

Were they sending the state-issued by certified mail or whichever it'd be - so it'd come really fast? Or Fed-Ex or DHL or something?

Fed-Ex. And I have to sign for it. So if I'm not here when it comes, I guess I have to track it down at the Fed-ex place, or something...

Sounds great, Rosie!--looking forward to hearing it!

I had a problem getting on FR this morning, but it looks like it's fixed. Anyone else have trouble?

Yeah, it sounded like you already had a library with you :) Hope you enjoy your next Heinlein in any case!
