The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The switch has probably failed. Should be fairly easy to replace.

Should I replace the outlet also?

Supposedly if you throw dog poo in the holes... they won't go back ~there~ again.

Hey, we got extry dog poo...

I think the stuff did work to keep the chipmunks out of the front garden. But I still see the mole/vole holes in the yard.

Well, when our water was off a few days ago...

Having woods on the property is handy!

Moles (and other sentient life forms) don't like to dig in dog poo.

Best thing I bought all summer was the squirrel proof bird feeder. It's weighted so anytime they step on it, it closes up. Chipmunks can still get in tho...

I may try that dog poo thing. I'd much rather have a natural solution than to keep dumping chemicals on everything.

Fattening it up to eat, later? Good move.

Chicken Fried Squirrel

~ quartered and cleaned squirrels, 1 per person
~ buttermilk
~ OldBay seasoning
~ flour
~ salt & pepper
~ shortening

Soak your meat for at least an hour in buttermilk.

Combine the flour & OldBay until you can see the flour turn light pink. Sprinkle in some salt and pepper to taste.

Heat up your shortening to 375 degrees in a iron skillet or deep fryer deep enough to cover the meat.

Roll or shake your meat in the flour mix and fry until the coating is golden brown.

Take it out and place it on a rack to drain. Place it in your oven for about 1/2 hour at 275 degrees.

Serve and Enjoy!

Sounds like a plan. Thanks.

I've replaced lights and ceiling fans before, but I've not done outlets/switches. Reckon it's time I learned.

I did a switch. I was skeered (even though I had switched off the power to that room), but it wasn't hard.

Not sure about outlets, but I imagine they're similar.
