The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I was surprised, and so were the others, at how ~animated~ Shore was when he conducted, so he didn't have a baton, but he would do this whole body dance and deep knee bends for the parts he liked, especially during the Moria part where the men's chorus is chanting dwarvish... Shore danced to that. It was fun to watch.

Excellent report! Not enough pictures, though. ;-)

The background screen is an interesting touch...I've never seen that done before, but I guess this is a unique concert, as you mentioned!

Cookies mailed! The postal lady said they'll probably be there Monday. Remember, "share and enjoy!"

I dunno.... did you laugh? Did you enjoy it? :~D

Quite frankly, it was more of a chore..."I gotta read this and enjoy it 'cause everybody else does..."

I dunno. It's not you, it's me.

Ah, well, then. Small liberals aren't enough of a challenge, anyway.

How about road construction people? We've had a lot of really horrible road projects this summer, and now there's one on the main road between work and home - takes me twenty minutes where it should be five sometimes. Want to do anything about it for me?

Well, I am surprised, because we loved it, I think it's funny.... but I also read it in high school/college age, and maybe it would seem more juvenile humor now.

It's not a duty.... if you didn't like it, life's too short to keep going on it.

Wonder if the Super Wal-Mart would carry Starbucks beans, too?

I think they might. We've also bought them at Sam's. But it actually works out now for us to buy them directly at Starbucks...we're there more often...;-)

Starbucks will also give you coffee grounds for your compost pile.

How about road construction people?

Grrrr...don't get me started.

The street I come up the hill towards the parking lot is now down to 3 lanes (from 4) because the buildings on either side are doing rennovations. This morning it was down to two and the street I needed was blocked off. Saw firetrucks and police tape. It's right at a hotel but I don't know what happened.

But because it's right next to the Capitol, I had to detour around another six blocks to get back the parking garage.

No, no I was not on time...

We don't have a Starbucks nearby. We do have a little cafe that serves Starbucks coffee...but I don't think they sell the beans.

We can also get Green Mountain coffee here (every possible flavor and blend, since it's more or less local), which is also VEY good.

*sigh* And I still have yet to start a compost pile. Not even sure how to do it. Should someday.

I kinda thought during the concert that he looked kinda subdued... maybe part of it was that we were so far away. But I have seen conductors whose main claim to fame is the contortions they are able to get themselves into while conducting, very nearly doing backflips on the podium. They usually do that not because it helps the orchestra or communicates his interpretation of the music, but because it keeps the attention on him, and makes him ~seem~ like a better conductor to much of the audience. I didn't see any of that in Shore's conducting.

Reminds of the old conductor joke: What is the difference between a conductor and a sack of fertilizer? The sack. ;~D

Thanks for the ConcertMoot report, ecurbh!

Looks like great fun was had! And your descriptions of the orchestra and Shore's conducting were terrific. I can almost picture it in my head.

This is me you're talkin' to...seems like it'd fit. Maybe in an odd sense it wasn't enough of an escape for me.

I dunno. Maybe after I get through some of the other things on my list I'll take a look at the next one.

Shore certainly wasn't overly-contorting, and I haven't seen enough to be a judge of how he compares to others.... I just liked his deep knee bends at the dwarvish parts. He was dancing with the mood of the music, and I don't know what I expected, but he was different!

Yeah, they'll give you a couple of bags of grounds for free.

I ain't built my compost pile yet. I've got to figure out a way to do it cheaply, but also have it covered and make it look attractive. Sometimes I hate suburbia...

But when I get it built, if you want to box up the poo, send it on...

You could ask the cafe for their grounds. You can put 'em right on the plants.
