Trying to set up a message board - VANITY

Posted on 07/02/2004 12:14:38 PM PDT by Frank_Discussion

I am trying to run a couple of message boards on Yahoo!Groups, and I'm getting highly frustrated with the whole thing. The Groups section just keeps dropping off, and so I have no access.

Does anybody here know of a free or cheap software I can get and load onto my personal ISP webspace? My ISP stays up pretty reliably, so I figure if I can set something up there, I'd be better off.

Thanks, Y'all.

I don't know but if you get one set up be sure to include a section for sports (Freerepublic doesnt have one) and let us know.

This is a little more than a message board but there are several written in ASP

Max Web Portal - www.maxwebportal.com

Soop Portal - www.soopportal.org

Snitz Forums - www.snitz.com

Server needs to be able to run Active Server Pages. I am not recommending anyone of these, but I have played around with all, with pretty good results.

Good Luck!

PHP-Nuke is more than a message forum, but it does include that functionality. And it's free.

I second PHP. Its my favorite and Nuke is the scaled down free version.

This is the what the full scale looks like.

and the Nuke version.

Totally Nice Nuke Presentation.

This is a really nice. I have been using ASP Portal stuff for about a year. I have produced nothing like that, HATS OFF!

I have a Competitive AAU Baseball Team (youth sports), man I would love to have something like that for our team site. Is PHP about the same as ASP?

Not to get into a debate about ASP/PHP - but I am duly impressed if this is your handiwork!

No sorry, I wish I could do that. But I am a hardware guy, not software. The one site theVille.org has been heavily worked on as you can see. I don't know anything about ASP message boards. I was just providing examples of Full and Nuke PHP. I think the main difference is Nuke is a very condense version with less functions. I like PHP a lot from a user friendly stand point. The Nuke PHP site is one of the gamers in the community. He is probably 16-19 years old. Not for sure. These kids learns some serious stuff a lot sooner nowadays than even when I was going through High School in the mid nineties. :O
