Was thinking about Jr yesterday when you had that comment about not spending time in the emergency room for football injuries this year - is that settled? Or is it settled in your mind but not in his yet?
It's pretty much settled in MY mind. I didn't want to clutter wedding-moot with this discussion over the weekend. We found out Thursday that he failed Earth Science. The irony in that is that he passed the Standards of Learning exam, which would qualify to give him credit if he were homeschooled. So, there may be hope for that.
His Mom appealed to my soft side (because we understand the level of importance he places on football) and we discussed what he would need to do over the course of the summer to redeem himself. Unfortunately, with his trip to Brazil, he would miss too many days of summer school. He said he'd rather play football than go to Brazil. But, since the money for the ticket and visa (in excess of $800) is non-refundable, that's not an option. He is going to Brazil if I have to duct tape his butt to the wing of the plane.
BUT, after he left for choir tour, we found out he also failed Spanish. He doesn't know that yet.
At this point, I am not willing to budge. His mom and I did back flips (and you can understand how difficult that is for ME) to put together a workable plan once we found out about science. He was only mildly receptive.
Assuming he's awake tonite (he typically sleeps for a day or so after tour), I plan to tell him about Spanish. I also plan to put the ball in his court. I will not discuss it in detail with him until his Mom comes back. But when she's back, he will have one opportunity to try to change my mind, and it will involve his own plan of action to redeem himself.
I ain't holdin' my breath. He has got to learn that he is the one determining the outcome.
I'm thinkin' I'll have Thursday nights free this fall.
