Word For The Day, Wednesday, June 16, 2004
Webster's New Third Internantional Dictionary | Wednesday, June 16, 2004We | Slip 18

Posted on 06/16/2004 5:44:41 AM PDT by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Haven’t checked my mood ring yet. Y’all behave yourselves, ya hear? Principal JimRob is still out of town. I expect the utmost respect on this thread today. The Mods have been overworked lately.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer.

vagary noun:
Pronunciation: Pronounced about three different ways. Take your pick.
Etymology: Probably fr. Latin

1) Archaic: Journey, excursion, tour (Sea Dragon’s adventures?)
2) Archaic: An aimless digression
3) Obsequious: (a) A departure from the regular, lawful or proper course of conduct. (b)Caper, frolic
4) A departure from the normal, expected or logical order of course. (a) A capricious, eccentric or unpredictable action. (b) A change that is hard to predict or explain.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your “A,” you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.

If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbie’s desk in the front of the class.

I've always called him "CondoMinimumMan." Full suit and all. He probably had blow up parts. I'm making myself sick here.

A+ for making the Subbie barf.

That's cheating. You're supposed to do it slowly to get a correct reading.

I used to have to tranquilize the Great Dane. Their hearing is so sensitive. Then my neighbors' horses would go wild. They would come over to the fence and have my scratch their butts.

Yes, he's still married. His son ran for office in his district and lost.

Well, when you do get your pony, they like their gums scratched also. They will actually lift their lips for you to do it. Horses are a bit strange. I loved the Arab I rode, though. Dang, he loved to run uphill and through trees and thickets and stuff. Just put my head down, gave him plenty of room on the reins and let him go. Kind of like sky diving, only on land.

Well I could have gone two lifetimes without knowing about the gum thing. Jittery glassy-eyed dinosaurs!

That's usually what I do. Just let someone say one nasty thing to me when I'm in a bad mood. Words will fly! Hair will be torn out. Nails bleeding. Unmentionable things cut off.

Go for it, Laura.

I don't read the comics. I know who Garfield is, but does he read fortunes?
