Vanity: How does one post fotos?
Posted on 06/14/2004 10:08:58 AM PDT by mkj6080
I have digital fotos from Reagan's final trip from Point Magu. I am not sure how to post them here. I do not have access to my mail box, due to a company's blocking software, so just leave a post. Thanks.

First step, you have to have them hosted somewhere on the web.
If the files are just sitting on your hard drive you can't post them here.

Try
fotki.com
to host the pic
It's easy. Even I can do it!

HTML rocks once you get a hang of it.

It is easy as sin.
First off, the files have to be on the web, so that when you tell the HTML editor to look for the photos, it can find them. In other words, you can't just have them on your hard drive.
Then you type the following command into the comments section on FR:
(IMPORTANT delete the space after the "<" and before the ">")
< img src="http://website where the photos are" >
That should do it. Previewing the comment will let you see if the HTML code was correct or not.

After you get your photos hosted somewhere on the web, then spend a little time learning basic html by using the help menu. Copy and paste the following address in your web browser: http://www.freerepublic.com/help.htm#html
Here is the simple html code to post a pic, just put the image address between the quotation marks. <img src="image addy here" border="0" alt="">
The most important thing to remember is to preview to make sure your post is correct first.

...and after you learn the basics of posting graphics, please be considerate to those of us on dial-up connections and include the width="xxx" and height="yyy" parameters in your <img width="xxx" height="yyy" src="link to web host here"> tag.
What that does is allocate the required screen area in my browser so that the remaining text can be read while the graphics are loading up.
You can find the width and height of a graphic by right-clicking on it and selecting "properties".
Looking forward to seeing your pix.

If you choose a free service like geocities to upload your photos onto the internet, you cannot post your picture directly on a thread. Although, you can post a link to your picture once it is in htm. format! like this...
this! Hope that helps.
