A Soldier Speaks

Even though your bullet will pierce my uniform

and strike my heart,

you will not kill me, enemy.

Even though your shell will tear my body

to ribbons,

you, enemy, will not kill me.

The more I am away from you,

I know that it makes little sense
To want what's not around,

But I would take a sea of storms
To be with you again.
