Hello fellow Conservative Freepers. I am writing asking for your input on my decision to potentially change companies that I work for. I am a Sales Account Manager (with Engineering degree and background) at a large Automotive supplier. I am content with my current position and like my boss and fellow co-workers.
Recently a competitor (Japanese owned) has contacted me and offered a NA Sales Manager position with a first year salary increase of +30% and company provided car. This company also offers the opportunity of me being able to provide input into the strategic direction of the business. I also know from a past company other "captains" at this company.
I am torn between loyalty to my current employer and the opportunity at the competitor.
Any advice is appreciated.
Get a firm offer in writing. Then go have a chat with your current boss about what he's willing to do to keep you.
I don't care who I work for as long as they do what I say.

Harvard Business Review did a study back in the eighties that showed you will move up the corporate ladder fastest changing jobs every five years until you are forty. After forty, you are best off sticking.
Loyalty to a company was rendered, I thought, a quaint notion in the last decade. The company won't give it a second thought if it comes to 'outplacing' you. It isn't like it used to be.
