First, allow me to say that I hold the greatest respect for President Reagan. He was a great man, with great vision, and was a great leader.
Not wanting to sound crass but I was wondering how Freepers felt this would affect this year's elections. I'm of the opinion that the more Kerry talks, the more President Bush does better in the polls. I was worried that with the kintoon's book coming out, that the attention would not be focused on Kerry.
Now, with the passing of perhaps the greatest President this nation has seen in 50 years, I wonder if there will be an impact on this year's election. Will the rememberance of President Reagan motivate the conservatives by recalling the glory days? Will it provoke the liberals so much that they will get their base motivated?
What are your thoughts?
[ps. It would be nice if the spell check function was supported by the posting page as well.]
Hopefully it will bring patriotism back into the issue, which helped in 2002.
A tragic moment, sure. But Reagan would be pleased if it improves the American mood.
We're all terribly saddened by the news. President Reagan's suffering is over. At the same time, he has passed onto the ages. Every conservative knows how much he did for our movement during his public career. However, we paid tribute to the President now for being a great American. He will all be in the hearts and minds of his countrymen. God Bless President Reagan.
I thnik the impact of Reagan will cause us to look back at what conservatives stand for, and will bring us back to the base which we started at with him.
May he RIP...
I'm sure it will. There will be an enormous outpouring of public affection. The country is simply devastated to lose one of its greatest sons.
Of course the election isn't until November and we'd be speculating too far ahead to really know anything. I'm gonna leave that up to the "Big Media," who usually gets it wrong when they do speculate.
Other than that, I see no direct impact. Why? The election isn't until November. Six months away.
If any base gets motivated, it will be the GOP.
I certainly am.
What good is Reagan's legacy if the America he loved and lived for gets mezmerized like putty in the hands of the left?
Amen. This isn't really about conservative or liberal or young or old or man or woman. President Reagan made us proud to feel American at a time when we thought nothing good could happen in our country. We're all feelin' that pride now even as we express our grief as a nation at his passing.
Its not about politics. Its about America and America is as President liked to say, above party. This is a country of hope and of unlimited faith in the future.
Could never had said it better. Sucks big time that I wasn't able to live through his Presidency (born 1987) and remember it, but from waht I've read on him.... He was such a great man put down by the elitist Left.
His letter to the nation in 1994 was cited by some Clintonites as having helped the Gingrich revolution.
I think Mr Reagan's passing certainly helps the current president.
Well, i lived through his presidency. It was awesome. You see, I was born in the early seventies and remember Jimmy's attempt at the presidency. Then came Reagan. You could feel the difference. I remember watching the assassination attempt on TV; I was on school and we were watching him walk to his limosine and then the shock of seeing him fall to the ground and the Secret Service swarm to shield him. Then, he consoled us when Space Shuttle Challenger exploded. Despite his age, he reached people in my generation and made us feel good about ourselves and our nation. Let us not forget that he crushed communism without firing a shot. Viva Reagan!
Viva Reagan indeed!
