Jim Henson did both Sesame Street and the Muppet Show. Don Music was Sesame Street, Animal was the Muppet Show. Kermit... (obviously) was both. That said, I have no idea who did the characters' voices.

Personally, Sweetums was my favorite muppet, although Fozzy was pretty cool too.

Am I the only one in the Hobbit Hole that lives in metropolis hell?

I did up to a year ago but I moved. Milwaukee has a population of towards 700,000, greater Milwaukee over 1 million. Hated the traffic. I do miss the conveniences, though--especially the libraries and bookstores.

You know, I was disappointed in PoA. I really wish she hadn't killed off a character that I would like to have gotten to know better.

Yep, it's warmed here now too. Got ma shorts and a tank top on and the windows open... Feels pretty good actually. I was just wanting to spend the afternoon workin' in the yard. *sigh*

I liked Fozzy, too :) The show was on from 1976-1981, though syndicated much later. This site lists who did the character voices:

It says Frank Oz did animal and Jim Henson did Kermit. Don Music was done by Richard Hunt, who also used to do Elmo, according to this site.

The really cool thing about the Muppets was that it was on Prime Time television *and* my dad watched it with me (sometimes). He loved the two old men in the balcony. The humor was universal and it was not just a kids' show.

Some time ago, I was talking with PE about the Potter books. I am convinced that Ms. Rowling either has read LOTR, or used it to get some of her ideas, or both. Too many similarities for me to ignore.

Austin's current population is about 672,000... the population of the metro area (Austin and the surrounding counties) is over a million.

The current population for the entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan is ~317,000... the little town I grew up in there had a population of about 2200.

I prefer the "big city" now, though... at least, I prefer this "big city". I don't think I'd be as comfortable in Dallas or Houston (of course, they're both much bigger than Austin.)

Well, I think she's read it, but I think more of the ideas come from the source materials - ancient legends and such. She had a nice classical British education and it shows.

But Dumbledore is Gandalf. Unless he's evil.

I was just reading Rowling's biography, and it mentions she did reread LotR repeatedly while writing the first book :)

I dunno about now, but when I lived in Austin it still felt "small town" even though it was a large city even then. The atmosphere there doesn't scream metropolis to me.

No fair! :) BTW I'm 1/3 done with Book 2--would've finished more last night but I had to work on my article. Was up late adding the footnotes--yawn.
