Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Nope. The leaves look kind of vinca-ish but I'm not sure.

Make sure you keep that rosemary and lavendar watered. Either one of those gets too dry and they're goners! - signed voice of experience

That quiche sounds yummy too.

I made an almond crust for the cheesecake. It really looks like a graham cracker crust, but it tastes much better. LOL, I ground the almonds so fine that I just about made almond butter (I did save some almonds for the top of the cake.).

Now, what to do with romano cheese. Hmm.

Nite folks.

I'm trying to decide when to go to DC. I think the "if" has already been decided. Right now I'm leaning towards going on up on Wednesday evening and getting in line. That seems a better option than trying to go on Thursday morning. Worst case scenario, I can grab a hotel room on the way back and sleep for a while. I've got friends I could crash with too as long as it isn't too late.

I'll decide for sure tomorrow.

I'm takin' a minute to see if I can look up this plant. Those leaves look familiar - but not the bloom.

I watched Secretariat win the Triple Crown --- all three races. I wept, spontaneously, as he pounded around the curve and pounded all the heart out of the rest of the field.

"A tremendous machine," indeed!

Odd. I can't find my big comprehensive plant book right now, just two smaller ones. I can find stuff with blooms similar to that but not with those leaves - and vice versa. You have my curiosity up now. I'm going on search and rescue for the big book.

BTW, saw the yard award right above that! I love it!!! :-D

Chocolate Almond Cheesecake

2 c almonds
1 c. bread crumbs (2 slices of bread)
2 tsp butter, melted (or margarine)
2 c ricotta cheese
1 c sour cream (or non-far yogurt)
2 eggs (or 3 egg whites)
¾ c Splenda
1/3 c cocoa
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp vanilla
½ tsp almond

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Set aside 1 tablespoon of almonds for garnish. Put remaining almonds in a blender or food processor, and process to fine crumbs. Combine almonds, bread crumbs and butter. Press mix into bottom and sides of a 9 inch pie pan. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

In a blender or food processor, process ricotta cheese until creamy and smooth. Add sour cream and eggs; process until well mixed. Sprinkle Splenda and cornstarch over cheese; blend until smooth. Sprinkle cocoa over mixture and blend until well mixed. Blend in vanilla and almond extract and pour cheese mixture into crust. Scatter reserved almonds on top and bake for 1 hour or until firm when lightly touched in the center. Cool cheesecake in oven with door open for 2 hours. Chill. It is normal for cake to fall.

The cool part was that I didn't have to go to the store. I already had everything in the fridge or pantry.

The cake is now done baking, and has been cooling for about 40 minutes. Mmm, chocolate! Not sure I can wait till tomorrow to have a slice.

Still can't find my big book. Now, I'm looking at a "just flower" book. There is a plant that doesn't grow in this area called Meadowrue that the flower looks like it. Never seen or heard of it myself. The leaves are palmate like the ones in Corin's photo but not lance leaves like his. Flowers look pretty much exactly like his. It's a little book and only shows one picture but says there are several species so I'm wondering if it might be another of those species.

Let me expand on that. I was going to make lasagna, and bought too much cheese. I realize that some think it can't be done, but I did it. So, here I was with extra ricotta and extra romano. what to do..... :-)

I'll have to look at the picture on a better monitor. It's kinda dark but those leaves look oval to me.

OH, goodness. I click on the hibbit hole to see what's up, and I go straight to this recipe. It must be fate. I am a chocoholic who loves cheesecake, but I'm supposed to watch the sugar.

How's the little one?
