Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...That none have seen but we alone.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

My mother read "The Hobbit" aloud on a car trip home from Florida when I was 8 - she dislikes Tolkien, but my dad loves it. When I found out there was a Hobbit movie, I was so excited.
Only then I watched it. Ouch.

But the music is so catchy!
Heh...I think they're fun movies for little kids...but don't capture the real book at all.

"What's this? The Hobbit? What the heck is a Hobbit?"What's a burrahobbit? :) I caught the premiere of Rankin-Bass as a kid while randomly flipping channels, and I happened to come in during the Riddle Game. I remember it distinctly because I was eating a honey sandwich, so for a while after that I couldn't eat a honey sandwich because it reminded me of Rankin-Bass Gollum, who creeped me out because he seemed like a frog or something, LOL!

Okie dokes:
CHEESECAKE
2 8 oz pkg softened cream cheese
0.5 c Splenda
1 tsp lemon juice
0.25 tsp lime juice
2 eggs
1 Tbs heavy cream
crust of choice, prepared
Whip eggs and cream until frothy. Add lemon and lime, mix. Cream splenda and cream cheese until smooth. Add egg mixture and beat till well blended. Pour into 8" round cake pan over crust. Bake 30 min at 350.
Notes:
1. Very good without any crust at all.
2. Double the recipe for a spring form pan. Reduce heat to 300 and bake for 1 hour or until done.
3. I'm not keen on the full dose of Splenda- I always use a little less than the recipe calls for (up to 10% less) and increase the lemon/lime juice. When I'm not strict about low-carbbing I cut the Splenda with unrefined sugar.
4. Makes a mighty fine breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or snack.

But the music is so catchy!"The GreeEEEEAAAAAtest adVENNNNNNture. . ." Okay, I'll admit that even though I liked that cartoon as a kid my brother and I made fun of Glenn Yarborough's voice :) But the movie still helped me visualize Tolkien's story enough to bring Middle Earth to life for me. I spent countless hours drawing pictures inspired by stills from Rankin-Bass and going over the maps in The Atlas of Middle Earth. I was much more inspired by Rankin-Bass than by Bakshi BTW.

Good lord, if I ever meet anyone inspired by the bakshi, I'll have to excuse myself from the room, go outside, and scream.
