Film legend Audrey Hepburn has been named the most naturally beautiful woman of all time by a panel of experts.
Three Australians featured in the first 10 out of 100 beauties, actress Cate Blanchett, who came in third, singer Natalie Imbruglia and model Elle MacPherson.
Princess Diana came in 12th.
Hepburn, the star of Roman Holiday and Breakfast At Tiffany's, topped the poll of beauty editors, make-up artists, fashion editors, model agencies and fashion photographers who were asked to choose their top 10 beauties from the list of 100 compiled by the drinks firm Evian.
The women were chosen for their "embodiment of natural beauty, healthy living, beautiful on the inside and out, with great skin and a natural glow to their personality, as well as their complexion", Evian said.
Hepburn was joined in the top five by current US film star Liv Tyler, Blanchett, Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie and the fifties icon turned princess Grace Kelly.
"Audrey Hepburn is the personification of natural beauty," said Elle beauty director Rosie Green.
"She has a rare charm and inner beauty that radiates when she smiles. Her skin looks fresh in all her films and her personality really shines through as someone warm and lively."
More than 76 per cent of the beauty experts who voted in the survey mentioned Hepburn in their top 10.
The survey also showed that while 32 per cent of the icons placed in the number one spot by panel members were blondes, 22 per cent redheads and 46 per cent brunettes.
"People who are confident without a scrap of make-up and look healthy, happy and glowing, seem like natural beauties to me," Eleonore Crompton, of Heat magazine.
Cleopatra?!? And how, pray tell, do they KNOW what she looked like?? I smell a rat.
I'm a woman, but I'd say it's her eyes and bone structure. The tattooes are unfortunate.
My wife thinks Jolie is gorgeous. I just don't see it. She looks goofy to me.
Yes it is whacked! Sophia Loren is 70, and could beat out most of that top ten. Jennifer Aniston beat Catherine Zeta-Jones? Ye Gods, this is more about who is popular, not who is beautiful.
Ping..
Well, yeah. And the presence of the downright ugly Uma Thurmon on this list is another mystery.
It looks like they just put the names of a thousand female movie stars in a hopper and randomly chose one hundred and posted them on the list.
I don't understand it myself. If she gets off the self destruction roller coaster, she could end up looking as good as Sophia Loren does now in her 70's.
Uma Thurman is a talented actress, but not beautiful imo. I think you're right. They pulled names out of a hat or something. Put Uma between Rose McGowan and Stephanie Seymour(one time top model for Victoria's Secret...now married with kids, and still very beautiful), and see how ridiculous this is.
Now now, Rose McGowan sans theatrical make up is extremely good looking.
Doesn't matter as long as they look good to guys.
Actually, when the "Treasure's of Cleopatra' exhibit rolled thru town, they made a big point out of the 'fact' that Cleo wasn't attractive. Of course that just turned on me and my buddy all the more, as we fugured she must have been AWFULLY GOOD at her "arts" to get so many big wigs to do her bidding...
Hmmmm... I think its time for you guys to post some "REAL" beautiful women ( as in women in your lives who don't have paid makeup artists )And if someone will tell me how to post a picture, I will post one!!!...;-)
DAMN smokin' good choice, Joe6
Anyway, among celebrities, I vote for Catherine Bell from JAG.
See post #17 :-)
Cleopatra was reputedly not a physical beauty (forget Liz Taylor's 1963 bosom), but she had a deep rich voice, was a thinker, and unusually for women then, kept up on the current events of her time, making her a fascinating conversationalist.
By the way, I'd like to know which extremely talented person examined the 3 billion women alive today and all the ones back through history to decide who were the most beautiful.
Throw in a decent retirement package and some health benefits and you just described the perfect job.
And I'm cheesed I didn't get asked to help
I'm agree 100%.
I'm agree, but I'm not speaking it very good the English either.
