Help! How do I move start menu from side to bottom? (vanity)

Sorry, but I need computer Windows XP help. The start menu got moved (thanks to the first day of school's out boredom, grrr) to the right side of the screen. Yes, I've tried looking everywhere under "help" but no luck. Yes, I've read the whole one page concerning the start menu in the manual. Yes, I have unchecked "lock start menu". Googling only suggests to click and move it to the bottom (duh) but it won't move and it seems others can't make theirs move either. Ok, it does move but only to enlarge it by moving it toward the left or middle of the screen. I can get the little arrow thingie on the left edge and move it all day but that's not getting it to the bottom because I can't get the arrow thingie to come on at the top or bottom of the bar. Can anyone help, please?

Right click the start menu. Click on "unlock the taskbar". Drag it wherever you want!

Enlarge it then drag and drop it at the bottom of the screen. It's takes a few tries to get the hang of it.

Well, I refuse to use Windows XP (motto: "all your registration are belong to us"), but this is how it works in Win 2000: if you move your mouse over the EDGE of the bar, the cursor becomes two headed, and can be used to change the size of the bar. If you move your mouse INSIDE the bar, it reverts to the normal cursor, and you can click and drag the menu to a different edge of the screen.

Yes, the lock task bar is unchecked. I've been clicking for 2 hours and it still doesn't worka because it doesn't seem to grab at anything. Yes, it will let me get the two arrow thingie when I click on the left edge (which only moves it left and right but not to the bottom) but I don't get the two arrow thingie when I click in the middle of the gray blank space. The middle of the gray blank space I only get the regular white arrow. Still need help folks!

Point to any part of the Taskbar EXCEPT the Start Button. Hold in left mouse button. Drag pointer to center-bottom of screen. Release mouse button. Voila!

Is this a desktop? If so shut down the computer, remove the cover and tap lightly on the hard drive with a hammer. If that doesn't work, hit the drive harder while the computer is running.

At least that's what I was told would work!

After you unlocked the taskbar, did you try to reboot?

I've been clicking for 2 hours

Maybe your mouse is worn out! Just kidding. 10mm probably hit on it. DON'T try to drag the durn thing by the start button - just anywhere else on the taskbar!
