Tonight at Barnes & Nobels I got angry! I went to buy Dick Morris's new book Rewriting History. When I entered the store the table facing the front door was covered with all the new anti-Bush books, too many to mention. I looked all the way around the table expecting to find Morris on the back side. His book wasn't there.
I went to the nearest cash register & asked the lady where I might find Rewriting History (I am starting to smolder). She checked the computer and then informed me it was all the way across the store on the back wall.
I asked her why it was that the anti-Bush books slapped me in the face when I came in, but I had to ask for help to find Morris's book. She frowned and then said "I wish I knew, I just do what I am told". I told her I would like to ask the manager that question and she said "I wish you would, let me call him". She was grinning from ear to ear.
In a few minutes the manager showed up and after I asked him my question he blushed and stammered for a minute. Then he apologized several times and said he would make sure, from now on, that the front table would be "fair and balanced".
Then he added that the pro Bush books sold better anyway and they should be up front, like he didn't even know that they weren't.
I am anxious to start Morris's book. Too much freeping goin' on around here for me last night. LOL I had to stay up & read all the replys to my vanity post.
You are good!
I don't think I am going to be taking on the US Post Office right away. LOL But who knows, I may "flip out" again soon.
Absolutely right. The liberals run all of the bookstores. You should see the weirdos at the cash register in my city. The libraries are the same way: they hire only liberals.
I usually see more pentagrams at a Barnes and Nobel than at a metal concert.
As for "books a million", I went in ours a few months ago and they had this "homosexual awareness" book right where young children could see it, down almost on the floor where the bargain books are. I didn't say anything, but a few weeks latter, they had been moved,...
Good point. The large publishing houses often snub conservative writers even if they have an established record of success. Ann Coulter documented this very well in Slander.
The small publishing companies may not be willing or able to buy their way onto those front tables.
>>>>>>"gender confused, immature, nihilistic, self-consciously enigmatic, painfully nerdy, flaming homos">>>>>>
Those are the best descriptions of bookstore employes that I have ever heard! I especialy like "painfully nerdy". May I use that one? LOL
Two other sites to check out for reasonably priced books:
www.alibris.com
www.abebooks.com
I know what you mean. Borders and Barnes and Noble drive the others out of business and the little stores don't have the resources to compete. I have ordered books from independents the B&N said they couldn't get.
thank you, and please do.
there really is a distinct culture of employees attracted to bookstores. there's a fascinating master's thesis in there somewhere. :)
Their obvious political stance causes me to take my cash to other venues. Screw them to the wall.
Hooray! Stand up, speak up!
We should slip a piece of paper in the Hillary/liberal books with a catchy phrase and a reference to FreeRepublic. If caught, and facing a liberal judge, you could do hard time for such an act though. :-)
I found the same thing to be true of Costco. No Morris book at all and a lot of anti-Bush books. But they did have Hannity's. So I bought mine from Amazon. Haven't read it though.
A good friend of mine confided to me recently, "I was in the library and I found three biographies of Rosie O'Donnell...so I mis-shelved them."
Of course I was aghast at such wanton, reckless behavior. =O
>>>hard time for slipping a reference to FR into hillarys book>>>>>
Maybe not. Last night we talked to a Houston policeman who was on duty at B&N. My husband ask the policeman what would happen if you were caught doing that & he said nothing would happen. It was free speech.
Oh yes, careful is the operative word for sure. Can you imagine otherwise? Yes, can only imagiane a Lib Judge on that one.
But hey, why not slip something inside; like a tibit from Ann Coulter. . .or just Dick Morris's comments re Hillary's book; while recommending THAT for better reading.
I did something like this once. . .everytime you go into a store; and see all those books though; it seems a bit futile. But you know. . .with a little help. . .
And of course; just 'one mind' reached; is a success. ;^)
ping to read later
