Could Bruce Springsteen be plotting to rain on the Republicans' campaign parade? Democratic operatives are buzzing that the Boss has been talking about staging a free concert somewhere on Sept. 2, when President Bush is due to address the Republican National Convention.

Besides getting out the vote, Springsteen hopes to provide "counterprogramming to the message the Republicans will be broadcasting," says a source. A spokeswoman for Springsteen would only say, "There are no confirmed Bruce shows for 2004." source

"There are no confirmed Bruce shows for 2004."

Well then, perhaps President Bush could ask Darryl Woorly (sp?) to spring a concert on the dims in Boston, blasting 'Have You Forgotten' at the convention.

Nothing ticks me off more than when someone compares Springsteen to Bob Seger. For me, that's the equivalent of equating Manet with David Hockney. Yeah, both use watercolors to paint, but that's where the comparisons end.

Seger is a Rock n'Roll legend, with a capital 'R.' Springsteen, on the other hand, is a unoriginal, mewling freak who hasn't written more than half a dozen listenable songs.

Let him organize a protest concert, I could care less. I know I won't be attending that freak-show.

P.S. Does he actually believe he's Tom Joad? What's up with the affected Southern twang? The guy's from freakin' New Jersey.

SO? Like the folks who would be attending a Springsteen concert would be the same folks going to the convention, or even watching it? This will get a lot of advance media play, but I doubt it will get one additional vote for John al-Query.

oh, free concert by Springsteen, what a draw. Last year in Buffalo his scheduled concert had to be moved to a small venue because he couldn't sell enough stadium tickets.

In the mid 80's, my tape deck spit out tatters of the last Springsteen tape I bought. I took it as a sign; the tape player was right.
