the newest version of Pan is the best, I thought, although I went 'erk!' at the end credits when they dedicated it to Dodi Fayed...what the hey?! He's been dead for YEARs! Plus Jason Isaacs, while wonderful as a villain, gives me a slight cringe as well, remembering some of the disparaging comments he has made about gun-happy Americans and how stupid we all are. I think he makes a better Lucius Malfoy. But the story itself was really nice...made me almost nostalgic for that age...*almost*.
I didn't know any of the political views of the actors, for which I'm grateful now that you describe them--probably would've distracted me from enjoying the film. As it was I liked the film enough that I went out and got the book and watched the old Disney version again after that :)
Oooh, didn't he, though? He looked like Haldir's evil brother. I don't like the Malfoys, but if Draco's going to grow up like his father, no wonder the fangirls have the hots.
One great thing about the "Harry Potter" movies is how good the adult actors are. Alan Rickman has been superb. And I think the new director is going to do a good job. That opens in a week. I'm taking all the siblings opening night. Maybe in costume.
