OHMYGOSH!!! You are not going to BELIEVE!!!
I was in the back of the house, spiffing up the boy's room and my room and then I thought "I better get the wet clothes on the line first." If I hadn't thought of it, it would have likely been hours before I went outside.
So I get the laundry and start hanging it up when I see something strange looking in the compost. Weird shaped. I said "Matthew, run over there, see what that is in the compost!" He runs over but then stops abruptly. "It's Jar Jar!" he says...Joshua took one look and burst into tears.
I ordered the boys in the house, because from the looks of it, it looked bad. I run over and find Jar Jar looking very perplexed, hanging upside down in the compost pile, her toe caught in the hardware mesh that our compost is made out of!
I picked her up gently and she didn't even flap...just let me pick her up and I held her and loved on her for a while, then called the boys and they ran out and loved on her. I took her in the coop and sat her down by the water. She took a drink and then without even a limp, made a bee-line for the nest box to lay an egg!
Her toe at the first joint was nearly bent backward, but she was able to grasp my finger with it...the skin is torn a bit, but no bleeding.
I'm just astounded. I have no idea how long she's been there, bless her...
Oh, no! Glad she's ok.
Poor Jar Jar! Glad she's OK...I can remember a chickadee getting a toe caught in a piece of screen we had on the porch when I was little...we got it free, but it died right after, we think of shock. We named it and gave it a funeral and made a headstone and even put a little tree by its grave. It's still there, I think.
But that would be a HORRIBLE thing to have happen to a pet!
How horrid for her to be caught like that! Glad she is saved now.
The kitty got her claw caught in one of those holes in the back of the dryer drum one time....meowed until I unhooked her. :)
