Expert Input Needed

I'm 31 and want to assist the troops in Iraq in any way I can. Too old for enlistment which would result in anything but JAG service. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get over there and help, in any way. I'm BA, JD, good shape and very handy w/ arms (Western PA born and bred, so thats a given). Wife and 2 day old baby girl. I'll take the risk, I simply cannot sit by any longer. I must contribute.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think that you can enlist up to age 33, but if you enter as an officer, you can be older. Besides, officers make more money. I'm considerably older than you and just joined the Army. There are grandparents in my officer basic class, so that gives you an idea of the age range here. As far as I know, there are two lawyers in the class.

You need to talk to an officer recruiter, not a regular recruiter.

Some of these companies are looking for security and non-security types. So good luck.

I don't know too much about you, just what you posted.

You and your wife just brought a baby into this world. That took team effort, raising the child takes team effort. There will be days when your wifes best helper, her team companion is you and only you. Her sister, her mother, her best friend nor the family priest will not be able to fill your shoes.

From where I sit, you didn't say if you have other children so I have no idea what your wifes experience with raising an infant is. Believe me it isn't easy work for a man or a woman.

My advice is to stay with your wife so that you are available for her and your new daughter. Go down to the DAV or the VA hospital and volunteer your time to help the Vets. Go over to the closest military base and offer your services to the men on active duty. Post an ad in your local newspaper offering to help the GI's.

I guess what I'm saying is don't desert your wife and child to fight for your country. If you were single then I would have a different attitude your patriotism.
