The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread
Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads
. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

"Our hay stored in the barn but each stall also has an outside door."
Way to go! : )
To: Inge_CAV
It's not mine. I just board there :').
To: HairOfTheDog
"All the stalls will have outside exits to paddocks though."
That is the best way to get them out in an emergency.
To: CindyDawg
You need some boards, saw, a hammer and some nails too. : )
To: CindyDawg
I do it anywhere in the large butt muscle. Best to do it on the lower half of the muscle so that ~if~ it were to get an infection or reaction, it will drain well. Lots of people do them on the top side of the butt because it is softer, but an abcess there is a little more problematic.
I have never had an infection at the site, but sometimes you can if you hit a folicle or a sweat gland wrong, I hear.

That's the way it will be designed! I don't picture them being closed in unless there is a real good reason.

Good girl! Don't enclose them with only one exit.

This is fabulous!! Thank you so much. I have two Arabians- one mare and gelding (they have NOTHING to do with Islam. ;) Right now I'm just trying to keep them safe from on coming Ivan and Free Republic has been a god send in keeping me grounded through Frances. (I'm in GA we got hit.)
I am thrilled to talk of my two favorite loves in the same place, horses AND politics. Yes, ping me and thank you Free Republic for being so totally cool & recognizing man and woman does not live by politics alone. It also might take a horse, or two or three...
Anne.
trainer, rider, owner. Disciplines: huntseat, english saddle, some show jumping in my past. (Too old to go breaking my neck now.)

I sure miss just riding English and jumping in the rings. Would like to do things like that, but few horse-rental places do that
Where are you from Old Rebel. I am leasing out my Gelding . If you live in Georgia drop me a line. You can run and jump him all you want plus he's english broke.
Anne.

My friend did some paintings of horses and sent me the pics today. He normally does other themes. First I saw of this style. I have permission to share and thought you all would appreciate them. You are welcomed to download for graphic use. But you are not welcomed to 'paint a copy' :)
Hope you enjoy!

Welcome! I don't know if you'll have time to read the ~whole~ thread, but you can find out much about us on this thread. I really should be starting a new one because this is so big, but we just chat here, every day or as often as you like, about what we are doing with our horses at the moment. We LOVE pictures of your horses, if you have them! And if you don't you really should!
I have an Arab also, 22 year old gelding, pictured on my profile page. My new husband and I are looking for an additional horse for him. I used to both show and jump Arabs, would love to try dressage, and now ride trail, but always in my English saddle, the only kind I have ever owned ;~D
pinging also PNAMBTC (Becky) who does the wake up ping every morning, and Inge Cav, who is in Alabama and can sympathize with hurricane worries.

Nice. I really like the Indian scene with the paint.

I liked that one too. His agent hated it. I think he is donating it to one of his Cherokee organizations cause the agent won't list it with his works. He has an odd agent. This is why he rarely does animals. I've been seeing his work for years and never saw this side.

Like that's the last thing you needed to be told huh?
Yeah I know. :-) She's a sweet horse, though, and looks a LOT like Dawn, a horse that we used to have at my other barn. I would swear that it's her, but she's too old to be.

Hair, An Arab (horse) lover!! Amen. Thank you for the info and all else. I will do the ping when I figure it out. Maybe you'd like to take a look at Red for dressage, a discipline for which I think he's perfect. It's too bad I cant bring myself to sell him. Are you in GA? ;)
I'm so glad you ride English saddle, as if there were any other kind. ;) (Preparing for getting hit with flying spurs. Sorry cowboys. ;))
I know I should have pictures and I do, I just changed computers and now I cant get them back without re-hooking up my old laptop. Ill get some more assuming we all SURVIVE the dreaded Ivan. Wish us all luck, we're going to need it and thank you, again for starting this forum or taking part of whoever started it. Thank you! It is such a great idea and I cant wait to participate. As soon as i lose my power for the requisite 7 days and then can, finally, get back on.
Warmest regards,
Anne
