The Guild 4-19-2004 Spirit of America
Spirit of America ^

Help Americans serving abroad assist people in need.

100% of your tax-deductible donation goes to these requests made by Americans serving abroad.

Read the story that inspired Spirit of America.

With bats, balls and gloves donated by their families and friends in the United States, American troops brought baseball to the children of Orgun-e, Afghanistan. Nazim, one of the local players, said, “I like to be a player, not a fighter.” Seeing the difference this made for the local kids Sergeant Jay Smith said, “It’s made me feel the best I ever felt in my life.” Smith also says that baseball and his unit’s other humanitarian activities “literally saved lives.”
Read why.

U.S. Marines Seek to Help Iraqi Children

The 1st Marine Division seeks school supplies, frisbees and soccer balls for Iraqi Kids.

The Marines want to help children like these and improve relations with Iraqis in the 'Sunni Triangle.'
Your donation will have an immediate impact.

$325 provides a supply kit for a classroom and its students.
$100 buys 110 flying discs ("Frisbees").

Any amount helps! Your donation is tax deductible.

What's that groovy necklace Effin' is wearing?

Update on Kerry's visit to my town on Monday - I have made one sign with pictures of waffles, with the words, "Where do you stand today, John?" and another that says:

John Kerry said,
"Our democracy
is a farce"
Maybe he should run for
president of China
or France.

Kenny Campo, owner of Campo Marina (R) presents U.S. Democratic presidental candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) (L) with beads in lieu of the keys to the city, during a campaign stop in Shell Beach, Louisiana April 21, 2004. With Kerry is U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA). Campo said there was no key to the city of Shell Beach, because no one locks their doors.

We don't lock our doors in my town, either, but we still keep keys - just in case some sleazeball like Kerry comes to town.

We don't lock our door here either. I'm not too nervous about mentioning it here. We live in the middle of a cornfield. Finding WHICH cornfield would be their problem.

I'm reading an article about Saudi Arabia in today's NY Times.

The reporter's name is Neil MacFarquhar. That would be an interesting family tree.

Have you heard that Bush is considering Rudy Gulliani for U.N. Ambassador?!

Wouldn't that be fun to watch.

John Podhoretz' column

I have very leary of Rudy. Without a doubt he's going to be sniffing around for the Presidency.

I suppose I would reluctantly put his sign in my yard if he were the nominee, but it would be quite difficult for me to honestly work in his behalf.

I think he's a closet Lib.

Democrats are a dangerous bunch and very angry apparently.

Note to self:

Be very careful when writing 'Bush rules!' on the dirty back windows of cars with Kerry stickers...

Very sad story:

Pat Tillman gave up a lucrative $3.6 million NFL contract with the Arizona Rangers after the 9/11 attacks. He and his brother Kevin joined the Army Rangers and trained for deployment to Iraq.

MSNBC reporting Tillman died in Iraq some time in the last couple of days.

God Bless you, Pat Tillman, and comfort your family and nation.

With Effin coming to your neck-o-the-woods Monday...have you seen today's story about his SUV?! He actually denied he had a Chevy Suburban until the reporter reminded him it was spotted at their Idaho ski resort last month.

Kerry then said: "I don't own an SUV...my family has it. I don't have it." Never mind the ridiculous grammar, how pitiful is it to try and foist this off on "the family". LOL!

Anyway...new sign suggestion:

Kerry: "I didn't INHALE my SUV" (Hat tip Mickey Kaus!)

Another sign:

Throws away someone else's medals.
Drives someone else's SUV.
Marries someone else's wife.
Inherits someone else's $$$.

Maybe someday he'll be president...
of someone else's country.

(Cribbed from Freeper P-Marlowe)

that's a good sign. I already have two or three, though, and past freeping experience tells me that's about all I can juggle. Still waiting to get the details about where and when "Mr. Chrysler 600 but no SUV" will appear in Wheeling on Monday.

That is sad news about Pat Tillman. I had thought about him several times in the past year, including idle curiosity about whether he would return to the NFL after his tour was over. We had a local boy die in Iraq a few days ago - a Marine - and my admiration and appreciation for him, Tillman and all the others is unbounded.
