Free Republic Mock NFL Draft
WinOne ^ | 4/10/04 | WinOne

The NFL draft is in a couple of weeks and today is a slow news day, so FReepers it's your turn to be the experts. Will the Chargers keep the number one pick? Will they pick Eli Manning? Or is that name "Ryan Leaf" still causing nervous breakdowns in Chargerland? The more patient (obsessed?) FReepers may do a mock draft of the entire first round...

For those of you who think this thread has no business in news/activism, flame away.

Eli Manning will be no Ryan Leaf. I expect he'll be more like Peyton II. I'll make a bet on that.

Dang it. I thought this was a good idea, but now I'll probably just watch this thread die...

Sleeper suggestion: Matt Schaub (QB); not terribly quick, but tall enough to get good visability and makes smart decisions. He had a very high completion percentage during his start years. He deserves to go higher than he probably will.

I think Coach Hank Strahm of the Kansas City Chiefs should hire that nice boy Lenny Dawson for Quarterback.

I just hope Steven Jackson (RB) will be there for the Patriots at 21, btu I don't think he will be, especially with the Broncos moving up.

Kevin Jones (RB) should be good enough, I guess.

Eli Manning will be no Ryan Leaf

Anybody remember:

Eli's comin' Eli's comin' (Eli's a-comin')
Well you better hide your heart, your loving heart
Eli's a-comin' and the cards say... a broken heart

I just hope the Cowboys don't draft an RB in the first round, because I don't think very many are that good. Mickey Spagnola at DallasCowboys.com makes a better point on this than I could...

That's a great idea! I'll pick for the Boys! Now all we need is volunteers for the other 30 teams...

Schula would be better off drafting a QB who could win the Big One!

I'd watch the Pats trade with Detroit... #6 is too high for Jackson. Detroit likes him too, but the latest rumor I heard was the Pats really want Sean Taylor. With Ty Law certain to be gone next season, the Pats need an impact player in the defensive backfield.

I'd like to see the Lions draft a WR to compliment Charles Rogers. But again, #6 is too high for a WR, IMHO. Detroit would do best to trade their pick.

Some sleepers: Babin (WMU) at LB, and Jeff Smoker (MSU) QB. Smoker has the accuracy and arm strength to be a good QB. His substance abuse problems will probably haunt him in the draft though.

As for Eli Manning, the latest thing I heard is that the Giants are trying to work a deal to trade picks with San Diego... the Giants really want Manning.

Yeah, I read about the rumor about trading up for #6 and Taylor. If they did, I'd be all right with it, but what they really need is a running back and at least two good OLs.

They won in the playoffs and SB with two guys (Hoekstra and Ashworth) who were 3rd stringers and a rookie center.

From what I read, Bellichick said the Bears asking price was too high, especially as this draft is deep. So hopefully the Patriots will 'settle' for Kevin Jones and still pick up OG Justin Smiley at the end of round one.

I'll pick for the Patriots if no one minds. If more than one person wants to pick for a team, the others can get together and use Freepmail to consult on the pick.

Vikings pickers will have to be warned about the clock, though.
