Another funny thing...

Found a woman on the Frantz line who is only related WAY BACK (I think we are 8th cousins or something). Actually, she found me. Turns out, she lives in the same city as me more than once! We lived in Tulsa at the same time too (granted I was a kid at the time).

Today was a hit at elf-boy's school. A boy brought his dog in for bring your pet to school week. Elf-boy got all excited and asked, more like begged, me to ask PE if Chelsea could come to school. We talked, and decided sure, tomorrow morning, I would get ehr to school.

Well. I decided that if she wuz goin to school, she had better be up on her shots, and have the nails clipped ~just in case she jumps on anyone. I am not sure how I managed it, but I got her into my car, and to the vet for shots, got her nails clipped, and called the school. The teacher said, come on! Eek! So, instead of going home, we went to school. Beardog was lovin it! She ate up the attention. Plus, it made for a good ending on a not so hot vet visit (Beardog is terrified of everything and as a result is a vey difficult patient)

The two boys (elf-boy and Joe) who brougt their dogs to school today were the stars of the day. Boy and dog are napping at present.

Funny email exchange with my friend Sonya, that is pregnant.

Sonya: Yesterday Tim and I went to Fred Meyer and there was a lady with a 4 or so year old toddler boy in the cart and when he didn't get what he wanted just started screaming and throwing a fit. I pray that our kid does not behave like that!!!!!!

Hair: Your kid absolutely will throw at least one public tantrum at each age.

Sonya: I hope very few tantrums. Maybe we won't take kid in public til they are well behaved. That kid made me stress out. I can't imagine what mine would do. Maybe I will bribe my kid before I take it anywhere.

You can't teach them to behave in public without taking them in public! - and btw... bribing is how you end up with tantrums! They will try it to see if they win. You have to let them scream and lose.... or just drag them out right then so they don't get anything, even what you were there for.... just leave the cart. That is what my mom said she did! Or get everyone in the store to laugh and point. She did that too.

Sonya: When did you have children to make you an expert on child rearing? I must have missed it.

Hair: HA! Point taken! But I have certainly been around enough parents to have seen parenting happen! I've made a note of things that sound like they make sense when I've seen parents talk about it!

OK! - I won't claim to have any more answers! I thought the story my mom told about how she had everyone laugh and point was funny. Humiliated me into not having any more, she said!

I think I am going to learn that she doesn't want my advice on children any more than she wanted my advice on her wedding. I don't know why I turned out so opinionated about stuff I don't know about! - I just did! And I don't think I am wrong! LOL

I like that dress with the yellow background; it looks more 'summery' to me. How's Sonya feeling, and will that dress still fit her in mid-June? ;o) Tell them, Mazel Tov, by the way. I wasn't around when you first mentioned it, apparently, but caught the news in passing.

You know.... she hasn't mentioned feeling sick.

She wonders about the dress fitting too.... she says it is a little big now, but she bought it before she knew. If it doesn't, we can find something else at the last minute that will work well enough. She's more worried about what she wears than I am.

A child screaming in public has learned that that is the quickest way to get mom or dad to do what they want.

I don't recall my kids ever screaming in public. Misbehaving in public resulted in being threatened with going back out to The Van.

The Van is a place no one wants to go when they've misbehaved...my boys knew this lesson waaayyyy before they turned 4...more like 2.

Now I don't even have to mention The Van. I just give them The Look, which means "The Van is in your future soon, if you don't straighten up."

Funny...I've only had to take each boy to The Van once in their whole lives!

Good afternoon... sigh... what a day. Got up and the bad guy had won the election. Had to take my dad to the car shop at lunch, then back again, just in time to catch real rush-hour traffic, which I never have to deal with. Now I have two hours at the office, then home with three or so hours of homework due tomorrow.... I didn't realize I was procrastinating that much, but tomorrow's the last day.

You're not wrong. I heard a kid in Tarzhay yesterday yelling at the top of his lungs. It was lunchtime, and the kid probably needed a nap. Felt sorry for the Mom, though. Times like that, it's better just to go home as soon as possible.

Some folks get so embarrassed by their kids' behavior, they will try to bargain with the kids to try and stop it so people won't judge the parent. From that moment on, the kid knows who's in charge, and it ain't Mama or Daddy!
