A pit bull escaped from its owner's yard and attacked a 12-year-old Gaithersburg boy last week, according to a Gaithersburg animal control officer.
The boy was flown to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., police spokeswoman Joyce Utter said. As of Monday evening, he remained hospitalized.
The boy was walking with two friends along Brian Court in the Newport Estates community at about 3 p.m. on March 31 when the dog got loose and attacked the boy, seriously injuring him, said Lisa Holland, a senior animal control officer.
The boy, who lives in the neighborhood, was bitten on both of his legs before two neighbors were able to scare the dog off by beating it with a bamboo pole, Holland said.

Let's hope I have not exceeded my Pit Bull quota for today.
Until I can figure out what the mods are up to, I will try to limit things to one or two Pit Bull threads max. So don't assume the number of pit bull attacks are going down.
Keep on bitin'.

Last Updated: Saturday, April 03rd, 2004 04:05:21 PM
Three pitbulls attacked a local teenager north of downtown Yakima on Friday, April 2nd. The boy, 15, is recovering after suffering severe cuts to his arms and legs. Police say the dogs turned on the boy when he tried to feed them at his home on Naches Ave. Investigators aren't sure why the dogs attacked. They say the boy's mother left him to babysit two other kids and watch the dogs while she went to work. When the dogs attacked, the boy tried to escape and ran to a neighbor's home for help. The neighbors helped fight off the dogs and called the police. Most neighbors say they're shocked by the incident. "Usually they don't bite. They've never nibbled at me or anything. When they chase me and i stop, they'll sit down and lay down on the ground," said Dimitri Mandapat, the victim's neighbor. Police say owning pitbulls is illegal within the city limits. Officers say the dogs will likely be destroyed.
