I read something yesterday about the 50th anniversary of Burger King. Anyway, I got to thinking about the BEST burgers I've ever eaten (not Whoppers) and several came to mind including the great IN'N'Out cheeseburgers. However, in my opinion NO hamburger can compete in greatness with the UNBELIEVABLE Tommy's chili cheeseburgers served in the L.A. area. They come cover with chili and chili peppers. Add to that large tomatos and of course great meat and that burger has NO competition. Any of you who have ever eaten Tommy's Burgers know that are absolutely the best. My mouth is watering for them right now. Unfortunately South Florida has really lousy burgers (Miami Subs have good burgers but still don't hold a candle to Tommy's Burgers).
Okay, if you think you know of any burger better than Tommy's Burgers, list it here and give reasons why. However, nobody who has ever eaten a Tommy Burger can would even consider another burger as being superior.

We used to have a Burger Chef here in California too, and I loved it. It closed up here years ago. I wonder if it still exists anywhere?

No White Castle Burgers where I live and I have heard of them all of my life. The other day I was in Smart and Final, ( a Costco, Sam's Club on a smaller scale) and they had them frozen so I bought a box. Not bad, but I am sure they are better fresh! At least I finally Had an infamous White Castle Burger, frozen though it was!

I was in LA area last week and I happened to see a Tommy's Burger place, but not knowing what kind of place it was, we went to the Cheesecake Factory instead! Big mistake. You should have gone to Tommy's. Another GREAT L.A. eating place is Felipe's near Union Station. It features French Dipped sandwiches dipped into meat juice. Also I highly recommend the Pantry Cafe at 8th & Figuerora. It has absolutely the BEST hamsteaks and eggs. One time I ordered a Western omelette there at the counter. By accident the waiter gave me someone else's order which was a chili omelette. I ate about half of it when he came rushing back to me to let me know of the mistake. I gave him an Edmund Hillary type when he asked me why I ate the chili omelette when I didn't order it: "Because it was there."

I have been going to the Pantry since 1978.Great breakfasts. At dinner, you get a whole loaf of bread too!

The last one closed in 1978, but they are thinking of reopening them soon!

Bob's Big Boy.
They're good in themselves, but you can customize. Here's mine:
Bun well
No relish
Heavy mayonnaise
Add avocado
When I worked there, people would add grilled pineapple rings, eggs, shrimp... great burgers.
Dang! Why'd we have to talk about this? Closest Bob's I know of is ~400 miles away!
