When I was a kid, there was this one unabashed booger-eater in my class whose public indulgence in the habit made him the brunt of all kinds of hostility from classmates. He never was able to overcome his social outcast statue as a "booger-eating spaz."

The poor kid was so tormented and oppressed by his grossed-out peers that he never got over it, with the result that he grew up to be an ACLU lawyer, a university law professor and the author of several published leftist screeds on the oppression of minorities (no kidding).
