I used to use my real name until I had Anti-Freepers calling my employer, etc. Every now and then, I'll use the real name...

I use my real name, I figure I'm more legitimate that way and no one can accuse me of being a troll! Besides this has been a great learning process for me as I've learned to debate and take heat when my reasoning process has been flawed. If your gonna have an opinion at least stand by it the way John Hancock did when he signed the Declaration of Independence with bold cheeky matter of factness...and do eat humble pie occaisionally when one is wrong or found to be out of ones depth!

My Freepname is a statement of my beliefs. (Go to my page to see where it comes from.)

When I first started on FR, it was right after the Clinton administration was in office, and I was working on a government contract. A contract employee can be terminated by the contractor at the pleasure of the government. (At least one person from my office was fired because he went mano-a-mano with a US senator on a public forum.)

Additionally, there are nutcases and stalkers that can make your life miserable if they know where you live.

I now work for a major aerospace contractor that *hates* adverse publicity about its employees. So again, having a freepname saves them from potential embarrassment, and me from looking for another job.

My two cents.

It depends on who you are and what you do.

What I do ... well, my daughter calls me a "Ho" but my career would suffer if I were known to be a political activist even in such a simple thing as posting on Free Republic. (that, of course, would be the case if I were a leftwing activist.)

"Judge resigns after paper publishes remarks made in chat room

ZINIE CHEN SAMPSON, Associated Press Writer
Thursday, March 4, 2004

(03-04) 16:24 PST RICHMOND, Va. (AP) --
A Virginia judge has resigned after the disclosure of racially charged remarks he wrote in an Internet chat room, including statements suggesting that blacks have a biological tendency toward violence.

Richmond General District Judge Ralph B. Robertson stepped down after 19 years on the bench. He stopped hearing cases last week and filed for retirement, which is to take effect April 1....

"I am not a racist," he wrote, according to the paper. "I am a racialist. The difference being I don't discriminate against an individual, but I do recognize the fact that there are a lot of differences between races which I assume from a biological standpoint is caused by difference in DNA. "

Someone told me that if you post with a fake name, anyone can read your FrailMail (see this link for yours).

Then I said to myself, 4 - 'cause that's what I call myself, you're simply being paranoid, and decided I just use my initals. All of them.

If your real name was Hugh Mongoose Teats you'd prefer to go by piasa, too...

My folks had a sense of humor and an affinity for the children's story Riki Tiki Tavi. I still don't understand what's so funny about "Mongoose."

I use my real name. The rumors of my death at the orders of Theodoric have been greatly exaggerated over the years.
