This may be the way to sink Kerry the fastest:
...the French are going wild for John Kerry.
His face graces the covers of magazines and newspapers on Paris newsstands. Hes the subject of radio phone-in and television talk shows. Journalists chase down distant relatives and long-forgotten acquaintances in search of anecdotes. If Novembers presidential election were being held here, theres no doubt that Mr. Kerry, the Massachusetts senator and Democratic candidate, would win by a landslide.
People are going crazy. My phone is ringing from morning to night because everybody wants to know about Kerry, said the head of the France chapter of Democrats Abroad, Constance Borde. Im even getting calls from French people asking if they can contribute to the campaign, and of course I have to tell them no.This is something Ive never seen happening.
He is very much admired in France, said a municipal office worker, Patrick Forestier, as he strolled with his lunch through the Latin Quarter. It seems like he will be more sympathetic to Europe
.And of course anyone who is opposed to Bush will be popular with us.
He is the closest thing that you will have to a French politician, with a certain diplomacy, a certain elegance, she said.He is more like a leader would be in Europe, Mr. Parmentier said. Asked in what way, he laughed and replied: Well, he doesnt look Texan. Oh so much more

IT should surprise no one that the editorial staff at the New York Times is overwhelmingly Democratic. But now there's proof. A dissident shareholder, Michael Petrelis of San Francisco, went through Federal Election Commission files and found the names of two dozen past and present Times employees who gave to candidates. Petrelis is upset that some, like book critic Janet Maslin, apparently violated the Times code of ethics revised in January 2003 to prohibit political donations. Maslin gave $500 to Dean for America. Other recipients of Times staffers' largesse were Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Al Sharpton, Bill Bradley, Robert Torricelli, Marion Barry, and Al Gore. Only two Republicans received donations from Times staffers: the late Jacob Javits and congressional candidate Ed Bryant.
Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis said almost all the contributions were made before the rules were changed. "In the few instances where this is not the case, the journalists have been reminded of the guidelines." Now the only way to tell how Times reporters will be voting is by reading their stories. Shall I tell you what we would do with pepe le pew in Texas? That limp-wristed pantywaste would get pregnancy check duty on my herd of Santa Gertrudis - all 300 head - and that would be before breakfast. After a round of heuvos rancheros, we'd get down to the castrating and the dehorning and the vaccinating and the ear tagging. No doubt frenchie's breakfast would revisit him. Then, we'd take a break for a big 'ol lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and gallons of iced tea. If Frenchie's still thirsty, he can saunter over to the stock pond and put his mayonaise jar underneath the pipe pouring pure spring water into the pond and drink from that. Then, we move over to the lower 40 and go at it again on the herd down there. Do you think frenchie could make one day of this? I don't think so. Frenchie Kerry could invite all his frenchie friends over to help - we could sell tickets and make it a Bush campaign fund raiser. Good, eh?
