Some romance novels are purely bad plots with racy sex scenes in them, but others are really terrific. Like the one I was talking to Rose about the other night - Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

You'd love it since it does involve time travel and Scottish legends and history. It's my all time favorite series! The romance is actually a subplot, but the characters are so well-developed, you start to just love them like real people.

All right, I'm just... perhaps unfairly... prejudiced against the section of the bookstore where the spines are pink, the covers show half-naked people, and the titles are like "Her Boss's Obsession".

I am certain the series you mention must be good. I might even try it if I can find it at the library. (Gasp! I don't really like romantic stuff! It kind of embarrasses me to read!) But your description of it sounds enticing.

I think I've gotten so defensive over the brain-candy I do read (SF and fantasy, not a girl's reading material in most people's eyes) that I automatically have to discount any other genre as being good. Though I'm very fond of a good mystery or historical fiction...
