When it's spoken, to me it sounds softer than that. Like all three syllables have the same weight, and the vowels are lighter. I love listening to Japanese, it's a gorgeous language. One of the few I like to hear.If my Japanese ever progresses beyond being able to count to 10, I'd love to read Tolkien translated into Japanese. BTW, I once read somewhere that he translated the Book of Jonah from Hebrew into Japanese--anyone else know anything about that?

Can you even imagine a greater clash of culture and language than that? I not supposing that Arabic is a very common second language in Japan, nor Japanese in Iraq. I really have to feel for both sides there, inasmuch as they're all standing around wondering how it was that things came to be this way. It's humorous, really.
