Good morning Penny!Bloom 'set to become' new James Bond?

digitalspy.co.uk passes along the dubious news: Pirates of the Carribean star Orlando Bloom is being lined up as the next James Bond. Film producers are apparently "desperate" to sign up the 27-year-old as a replacement for Pierce Brosnan, who retires from the role after the next movie. [More]

Well, since they're looking to change the James Bond image to a younger, trendier kinda guy, they can't do any better than Orly!

Okay ... I can deal with Orlando as the younger, trendier, cheeky-monkey Bond ...

... but, hot-cha-cha, there's a lot to be said for tested, traditional, and intense!

I wish Pierce Brosnan would stay James Bond, but if he's going to go I'd rather they give it to Orlando Bloom than some of the other actors who could potentially get it. I could see Orlando doing it--he's got facial features that could pass for a British aristocrat in the right outfit, he can do the accent, and he's got more martial arts skills than any of the previous Bonds with the possible exception of Connery (though Orlando is better with weapons than Connery was). He would be able to do some stunts none of the previous Bonds could do.
