...or, maybe I needed one earlier this year to keep away creepy students. What happened with the creepy students?--haven't heard this story!

I think he would be good for WN to have around...Does she have a prowler problem or something? I would think most prowlers would be deterred by the sight of the Harley in the yard!--most people tend to think twice about messing with a Harley owner :)
To: Wneighbor
BTW, speaking of Harleys, I don't think I've mentioned to you, in Milwaukee my mother used to work with Jean Davidson of the Harley-Davidson family. I have a signed copy of one of her books she gave my Mom,
Growing Up Harley-Davidson :)

Almost done. Tomorrow it gets a polish. Remind me and I'll send you a copy tomorrow night.
Sister just popped her head in the door, returning disk 2 of Kenshin and demanding more... in fact she took two disks, and said if she gets bad grades tomorrow it's my fault. Hehehe. I am such a good role model.
Eh, she has good taste. We think the same fictional guys are cute, that sort of thing. I'm gonna miss her when I leave.

Evening...it's been an interesting day. This afternoon while G'nad was gone to a National Wild Turkey Federation youth event with the 2 oldest kids, I took thenewboy out with me (he was in the stroller) to check for eggs and water the chickens. I notice the guineas up in the lot chasing something. So, I park the stroller and run up to see what it is. Now, it's running from me and the guineas. It goes up a tree (about 22 feet) and is looking at me...I'm thinking, "where is my gun?"... I've got a .357, but I didn't want to use that. So I grabbed g'nad's .22 Colt Challenger, but I brought along the .357 just in case it came after me. Long story short, it was still up the tree when I got back, and I shot it 3 times before it fell, then I pumped 2 more into it when it hit the ground. It wasn't moving, but I wasn't taking any chances...and it looked like a ground hog to me.
When g'nad got home, I showed him my handy work, and he said it was a groundhog... I had thought that was what it was, but I've never heard of a groundhog climbing a tree, and neither had g'nad. But it was a groundhog, and it was up a tree... the operative word here being "was"... I was surprised it was still there when I got back.
I know this isn't as dramatic as impailing or gassing a varmint, but it wasn't too messy and much easier than pulling out the mower...maybe next time we'll try it with the brush hawg.
winmag: as for the Colt Challenger, G'nad's uncle left it to him. He has the box and original mag and cleaning kit.

Hee... I also loaned her a large book to carry the disks around in... heh, she's watched all of two other animes and Mom hasn't caught on, thanks to the wonder of headphones and bedrooms.
If I had the time and inclination I could persuade Mom that her prejudices, in this case, are not entirely based in fact. But I'd rather avoid that. In the last year I've finally learned the secret of living with other people moderately well... you do what you like in a way that doesn't bother them too much.
Besides, Kenshin is mostly harmless. Not like I'm loaning her bad stuff. I've already warned her about 'shonen ai' and 'shoujo ai'. (Roughly, 'boy love' and 'girl love'; Japanese comics can get way perverted.) And she is seventeen. If that's not old enough to sneak a few anime...

Speaking of roommates, you and Rosie decided if you're going to room together in Colorado yet? :)
Yeah, just as long as you don't steer your sister towards the bad Japanese comics/anime--that stuff I'd agree with your Mom on. But most of the stuff that appears on US TV, which includes Kenshin, is pretty non-objectionable.
