The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

An old Mossberg 500 with 8 round magazine, 18" barrel, no choke

I should have known... I have one of those. I have both of those barrels, too. It's a nice knockoff of the Remington 870, but only almost. I still think I'm gonna get an 870 to get this outta my system. My Mossberg is having problems though... and as I understand, it's a fairly common issue: the safety switch breaks. The little plastic thumbswitch breaks off, and then the dang thing tends to fall into "safety on" position just as you're about to pull the trigger. Most distracting. :-) Speaking of boat shotguns... have you ever seen the all-stainless S&W "Camper Special"??? Looks like a nifty thing for a saltwater environment.

Did you acquire the antique Oscar Wienermobile yet?

The museum won't even talk price with me. All I can do now is save my money, and make an offer to Dillon Precision for their Chevy Suburban with the minigun in the back.

" Every loss of a soldier is an incalculable loss to a family somewhere"

"Every time one person dies, a little bit of something dies in all of us." I'm screwing up a quotation from someone.

Yeah, I agree, there's not a Democrat of stature with the integrity to be president.

I should have known... I have one of those.

So, when are you going to post a picture like Sam's? (she says this referring back to post 4761)

:-)

Yeah, it's cool and scary at the same time. On the scary side, besides the antiseptic thing, my concern is also what will happen with the UN and EU's attempt to offset US military strength by building an EU army, etc. For that reason I think it's vital that we stay well ahead in the arms race, esp. in stuff like space weapons, robotics, and nanotechnology. We didn't even use most of what we've got in that area and we still blitzed Iraq faster than France could say "I surrender"; my mind reels to think of what it would look like if we really flexed our muscles. I suspect the last few Star Wars movies are not far off the mark of where the future of warfare is going.

oohhh... Dillon Precision...

That's a great bunch of guys. Great customer support. I remember some hours spent on the phone some years back with somebody there that was helping me set up my RL 550 for .357. No worries at all about helping some neophyte figure out how to do reloading. Very patient, and very competent people there who really knew what they were talking about.

That's a good outfit, Dillon.

Yes, I think the 870 is better, it's really kind of a classic, while the 500 is sort of an "almost" a classic.

I haven't seen the S&W camper special, though I have seen various SS shotguns, Winchester has one, I believe.

These days, I usually pack a Mini 14 .223 stainless barrel with 30 rnd clip. I had half a mind to get one of the custom after market high tech looking stocks for it to make it look more intimidating, but probably won't, since it's actually pretty accurate the way it is, which I believe is uncharacteristic for those things.

I am so not worried about this. Socialism is overtaking the EU. This alone will take them down long before they become a threat to anyone. The UN has already proved that they are ineffectual and impotent. Who really cares what they think? I've always argued that the UN has only ever done more harm than good. More wars have been started by UN action than stopped by them. Might was well get all the biggest gangs in town to all meet in the same bar some night... the outcome would be just as predictable as any UN action has ever been. Nothing solved, and many new problems added.

Quite so. I only know a little about the robotics we're doing over there, and what I know scares the dickens outta me. We're doing some really unbelievably cool things with really cool toys. Maybe not so much with the laser-blaster weapons, but stay tuned... :-)

He is GREAT!!! I got to hear him make noise on the phone on my birthday last week! He was cooing and making hungry noises. :-)
