My guess is that they made the rule because the rank and file were getting a little out of hand with the size of their sheath knives. As Winmag said... the tendency to go to the "hollywood" knife had affected too many. To change to a folder inherently limits the blade size, in most cases. I'm guessing it was something like that.

While all that's true, there's a genuine danger in wearing a sheath knife, unless the sheath is metal or plastic, or has a hard liner. A fall under freak conditions can push the blade through the stitching, and into YOU. Or the blade can poke through the flat sides of the sheath, also into uncomfortable locations.

That's why bayonets have had hard scabbards for the last 100 years. Unless it's a collectible, I won't have a sheath knife that lacks a plastic sheath liner, or a hard plastic sheath.

That is a good question. I don't know about how the high schools work. My experience is with the elementary level. If the pick up occured at the end of the day, we never even saw the parents. Kids often walked home independently. However, anyone removing a student from class during the school day was required to verify ID and sign out the student, they also usually waited in the main office on the couch for the kiddo.

On 9/11, the principal went door to door along the hallways telling teachers to lock the doors to our classrooms cuz parents were lined up out of the school doors wanting to pick their kids up from school at 9:00am. Parents were turned away who did not have ID in hand. We had a lot of ticked off parents that day.

Well, the day I picked up my friend's kids was back in September or October I think. It was a second grader and 2 third graders. I just went to the office and showed 'em the note and the school let 'em go with me.

Now, because it seemed like the "right" thing to do to me, I waited in the office till the boys got there. But, they didn't ask me to do that or ask for any ID. I didn't think about that at the time. IMO, I thought I ought to wait in the office so at least the office personnel would see that the boys *knew* me when they left with me.

Of course, 99.999% of the time a non-parent picking a kid up would be circumstances like that. The mom's car had broken down and I was just helping with a ride to three dental appointments.

I never heard of the law you spoke of, but I sure wish schools would use it.

Is it just me, or is that flag folded wrong? I though it was supposed to always be folded in the triangle fold.

New, out of the box, they aren't triangle folded..... and if they return them to the same box, perhaps not.

I wouldn't think the White House would be committing a major faux pas.... so I would almost say it is evidently OK.

I think the best present would be your presence!

In all honesty, we neither need nor expect presents. However, we do have a small registry set up at Amazon for those who really do want to give us something.

Yeah! I was lookin' at that camera!!

I don't guess bike saddle bags fit a horse do they? Not that they would be a wedding gift, but I have a brand new pair of cordura saddlebags that were given to me for my 74 Shovelhead. Never used 'em. They're hangin' in my garage, should I bring 'em so you could try 'em out?

Now that's a TV!

More than many cars.

Question holds: Are the pups going to be Merry and Pippin?
